The purpose of the garden and the principles of its organization
The garden is a limited enclosed space on which there is a house and plants grow, and it depends on its owner whether the plot will simply land or become a harmonious microcosm, cozy, functional and self-sufficient. The conditions for the creation of such a microcosm in many respects depend on the tasks, the fulfillment of which is envisaged in the given territory. It can be household tasks providing the family with fruits of agriculture and growing domestic animals and poultry, aesthetic, hygienic, social and utilitarian tasks creating a beautiful, well-maintained and moderately functional space around itself. Simply put, people equip their site in accordance with their needs, interests, style and way of life, as well as a certain level of well-being.
The economic function of the garden primarily involves the use of its space for growing the largest number of vegetables, fruits, berries and, possibly, breeding domesticated animals and birds with the maximum use of the entire useful area.
However, the harmonious world of the garden can only be created in the unity of aesthetics and functionality, which involves the combination, interdependence and mutual complementation of all tasks assigned to the garden. The creation of harmony is the main principle of the decision of the garden area and determines the understanding of the process of decorating the garden as a whole. The main task of solving the space and design of the site is to create a harmonic set of aesthetic and useful functions of the garden so that the aesthetic design supports the economic or other functionality of buildings, plantations, structures and the territory as a whole.
The utilitarian and hygienic function of the garden is manifested in its residential function and external aesthetics. To do this, it is very important to create a feeling of intimacy, security, seclusion from the external space with its problems and adversities, from which an invasion of the garden space can occur. Fencing in this case implies not only physical and spatial isolation with the help of a fence, but also mental security, which is created by the atmosphere of rest in a harmonious and beautiful space, arranged according to your taste. It is very important to find the optimal combination of these functions to create a harmonious garden.
All elements of the garden, starting with the features of the terrain and the type of buildings and ending with the selection of plants, should be combined with each other, fit into the surrounding area and create a single stylistic plan. So, for example, luxurious parterre beds and statues will look ridiculous next to a small panel house or an old hut, and such dissonance will kill the beauty of the space. It should be remembered that any plants, buildings, design elements and features of the form or landscape of the site are good in their own way, you only need to help them fit into the surrounding picture by their skillful selection and combination. It is this process of selecting and combining individual elements and is called creating a certain style. The size, placement and material aspects of the problem certainly influence the creation of a specific style of the site's decoration, but it is always possible to find a reasonable compromise, because each style is original and attractive in its own way. The artistic side of the compositional space created in the garden has a strong aesthetic impact on the state of the soul, mood and, ultimately, the well-being and physical condition of a person, therefore, in no case should the beauty of the garden be neglected.
If you have got a plot with an old but pretty picturesque hut, do not rush to make plans for its demolition and the construction of a new stone house in its place. Try to look at it from the other side: you have a wonderful chance to create a cozy site in the pastoral or rustic style, and the basis of the composition in the form of an old house you already have. The izba can be repaired and patched up, the front of the house is divided into a lawn with mixed herbs, a porch with wide cozy steps and a boarded terrace for evening tea drinking. Sometimes you can put a simple log arbor and plant it with ivy and dog-rose, build a log-well and pave the area around it with cobblestone. In the background, try planting the curtain of a viburnum, a mountain ash, a dogrose, and near the house to break a front garden with motley simple flowers, surrounded by a low fence. It turns out a charming corner, attracting its pure touching beauty.
The art of decorating a garden consists in delicately and deliberately delineating its space, making the garden area a source of positive emotions and aesthetic impressions. Already the well-chosen proportions of the garden can become a source of beauty.
