Implants as a means of contraception
Implants usually consist of six tiny plastic tubes, 30 mm long and 2 mm wide. Such ducts, as a rule, introducing-waving under the skin on the inside of the woman's hand. This operation requires only local anesthesia. These tubes also contain the progestogen hormone. The hormone is gradually released from the tubes and enters the circulatory system of the woman. Thus, it serves to protect women from unwanted pregnancies. Implant operations are performed by experienced doctors. Implants provide a woman with protection from pregnancy for five years. This contraceptive method differs from all previous ones only by the method of administration. However, its effects on the body and side effects are similar in many respects to those that progestogen tablets give.

If a woman decides that she needs to become pregnant, then she should go to the doctor after five years or earlier. The doctor can simply remove the implant.

• Just like pills and injections, hormonal implants do not interfere with the manifestation of passion in lovers.
• In the same way as progestogen tablets, hormonal implants reduce the risk of certain diseases and can block the development of a number of diseases that a woman already has.
• This method of contraception is suitable for nursing mothers.
Negative aspects of
• Women who are unable to tolerate even a small surgical intervention are unlikely to use this method of contraception.
• Hormonal implants, as well as progestogen tablets, can give some side effects, harm from which, however, is incomparably less than from an unwanted pregnancy.
• Hormonal implants can disrupt the woman's menstrual cycle, and long-term use of this contraceptive method can cause menstrual cycles to stop altogether.
• After a surgical implant operation, small scars usually remain on the arm.
• Some women believe that the introduction of artificial chemicals in the body violates its natural state. It is for this reason that some women refuse to use hormonal implants.
• This contraceptive method does not provide protection from sexually transmitted infections.
