The newest possibilities in the treatment of asthma
One of the new treatments for asthma can be called SMART-therapy. But before you consider this method of treatment in more detail, you need to remember the traditional principles of therapy for this disease.
In the case of a classical approach to the treatment of asthma, the patient is assigned a hormonal drug that fights inflammation in the bronchi. But during an attack of such a hormonal drug is not enough, so in this case, are prescribed additionally other drugs - bronchodilators of short-acting. It is with their help that dyspnea, an attack of suffocation and the appearance of bronchospasm are removed. These drugs act quickly, but not for long. Therefore, the risk of an attack occurs again after a while. With frequent use of such drugs, the likelihood of side effects increases significantly.
For this purpose, in order to avoid the appearance of new seizures, another medication is added to the traditional treatment regimen, a bronchodilator with long-lasting action. Such treatment has many shortcomings. First, many patients do not like receiving a significant amount of drugs. Secondly, with such a complex approach, it is possible to get confused in dosages, which will negatively affect the results of treatment.
SMART-therapy can get rid of all these disadvantages. What is it?
It is based on the use of only one combined drug - symbicort. It is used for both basic treatment and for the removal of asthma attacks. This preparation consists of two components with different principles of action. The first of them is aimed at reducing the inflammatory reaction and reducing the manifestations of an allergic reaction in the bronchi. Due to it, edema in the bronchial mucosa decreases, which contributes to their expansion. The other component has a unique brow-expanding action. In this case, the effect comes quickly and lasts for a long time. Already in the first minutes after taking the patient it becomes easier to breathe. Delivery of the drug is carried out using a dry powder inhaler.
Practically treatment by this method is as follows. The patient is required to do inhalations 2 times a day. It does not matter whether there are seizures or not, treatment continues in any case. Most often, the absence of exacerbations suggests that the drug works and the disease is under control.
In the presence of seizures, the frequency of use of the drug may be increased, but not more than 8-12 times. If the dosage is greatly increased, side effects may develop. But most often in practice the dosage has to be reduced, as the number of attacks during the day is gradually reduced.
This asthma therapy will be convenient for working people leading an active lifestyle. With a small dosage of the drug, it is possible to achieve a good anti-inflammatory effect. The frequency of attacks decreases, dyspnea disappears, all this significantly improves the quality of life.
