Anemia, how to treat the disease
Reducing the amount of hemoglobin in a unit of blood volume, more often with a simultaneous decrease in the number of red blood cells is called anemia. In itself, the term "anemia" does not define a specific disease and only indicates changes in the analyzes, i.e.is a symptom of many pathological conditions.
There are different types of anemia. Therefore, the treatment of this condition is different and depends on the cause that led to a decrease in hemoglobin.
Treatment of folate deficiency anemia
Folic deficiency anemia develops as a result of a decrease in serum folic acid levels of less than 4 mg / ml. This type of anemia occurs most often with alcohol abuse and long-term use of certain medications.
Treatment of this anemia is carried out with the help of substitution therapy with folic acid. In addition, the patient should stop the further intake of anemia-provoking medications.
Iron deficiency anemia
Iron deficiency anemia( IDA) is the most common type of anemia. As the statistics show, IDA is observed in 25% of the adult population.
And anemia in infants in 90% of cases is due to iron deficiency.
Iron deficiency anemia - its causes may be different - requires mandatory treatment, which includes drug therapy and dietary nutrition.
The diet should contain a sufficient amount of protein and iron-containing products, be enriched with vitamins. The use of milk by adults is limited.
Drug therapy is carried out with iron preparations. Against the background of their admission, after two weeks, the growth of hemoglobin begins. Treatment is carried out for 2-6 months.
In severe IDA, treatment is initiated with intravenous or intramuscular injection of iron preparations, and then switched to tablet formulations.
Treatment of iron deficiency anemia in children
Increased iron requirements are noted in children and adolescents. With a lack of the latter in food, they develop IDA.Very often, this disease occurs in infants who are breastfed.
Treatment of anemia in children is best done by using liquid forms of iron-containing drugs, which are usually prescribed at the rate of 3 mg of pure iron per kilogram of child weight per day.
When treating IDA in children, remember that milk and dairy products reduce the absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, in older children, the amount of dairy products in the diet is limited, and the iron preparations are given to the breast children in the intervals between the feedings.
How to deal with the disease during pregnancy?
IDA often occurs during pregnancy. This disease in pregnant women should necessarily be treated, tk.anemia leads to oxygen starvation not only of the mother's body, but also of her unborn baby. In addition, iron deficiency in the body of a pregnant woman does not allow it to accumulate sufficiently in the fetus. As a result, the treatment of anemia in children must begin with the first months of life.
Treatment of IDA during pregnancy is carried out with iron-containing preparations. When they are taken, pregnant women often have constipation. For their prevention, it is recommended to increase the content of foods rich in fiber in the diet.
Aplastic anemia
This anemia is caused by a decrease in bone marrow production of blood cells.
With severe anemia, the erythrocyte mass is transfused. In hemorrhages( bleeding), transfusion of platelet mass is indicated.
Conservative treatment is performed using antimonocitic globulin or cyclosporine. With severe aplastic anemia, especially in young patients, bone marrow transplantation is indicated.
Treatment of the disease with folk remedies
Treatment of anemia with the help of folk remedies includes a full-fledged variety of nutrition, high in protein, vitamins and trace elements.
To assimilate iron, ascorbic acid is required. Therefore, people suffering from anemia should regularly eat strawberry, ordinary mountain ash, black currant, gooseberry.
Eat as often as possible, quince, apples that are rich in iron.
