The lacrimal nasal canal during the intrauterine existence of the child is closed with a gelatin-like film that bursts at the moment of the child's birth, when the first crying occurs. But in some cases, the opening of this channel does not occur, it remains plugged with a stopper. As a result, there stagnation of tear fluid and suppuration of the lacrimal sac begins. This condition was called dacryocystitis. Most often the disease has a chronic course and is prone to recurrent recurrence.

Causes and Symptoms of Dacryocystitis

The main factors that lead to the formation of dacryocystitis are of an infectious and noninfectious nature. Among infectious causes, a significant role is played by bacteria, parasitic infestation viruses, in adults, dacryocystitis can also be caused by injuries of the maxillofacial zone, eye burns, chronic infections of the oral cavity and nose.

After penetration of the pathogen into the tear-nasal canal, the process of inflammation, edema and damage to the outflow of tear fluid begins. In addition, conjunctivitis predominantly affects both eyes, especially with regard to infection in labor. Dacryocystitis in toddlers can be observed in both eyes simultaneously, but this does not occur so often, mainly the process takes place only on one eye.
