Operational Nurse I. General

An operational medical nurse is assigned to a person with a secondary medical education who has received special training for working in the surgical dressing unit. The head physician of the hospital is appointed and dismissed on the recommendation of the chief nurse in accordance with the current legislation. Directly submits to the senior operating medical nurse, in the process of preparation and during the operation - to the surgeon and his assistants, during the period of duty - to the on-duty doctor of the department. In his work, he follows the rules and instructions on the work section to be executed, orders and instructions of higher officials.

II.Obligations of

1. Prepares the operating room and the participants for the operation.

2. Keeps track of the timely delivery of the patient to the operating room, its correct location on the operating table and transportation from the operating room.

3. It assists the participants of the operation during its conduct, providing participants with the necessary tools, materials, and equipment.

4. During the operation, the timely return of tools and dressings is monitored.

5. Ensures that all personnel in the operating room follow the rules of asepsis and antisepsis.

6. Upon completion of the operation, collects the instruments, recounts them;produces the appropriate processing tools.

7. Prepares underwear, dressings and sutures, clothing, masks, instruments and apparatus for sterilization;controls the quality of sterilization.

8. Keeps track of the timely direction for histological and bacteriological examination of the material taken during the operation from the patient.

9. Conducts the necessary accounting and reporting documentation.

10. Accepts and delivers duty on the operating unit, checks the availability of sterile laundry, materials, solutions, tools, etc., necessary for watch, equipment serviceability, sanitary condition of the operating room. After the end of duty, counts the consumed and the remaining operating linen and materials.

III.Rights

The operating nurse has the right:

1. To give instructions to the nurse of the operating unit during the operation.

2. To check the scope and quality of the work done by the nurses.

3. Control compliance with aseptic and antiseptic rules during the operation.

4. To make proposals to the senior operating sister and the head of the department on improving the organization of his work.

5. Obtain information necessary for the performance of their duties.

6. To participate in the meetings held in the hospital and in the department, where issues related to its competence are considered.

7. To increase the professional qualification in the courses of improvement or in the workplace in the established order.

IV.Liability

Responsible for fuzzy or untimely performance of duties stipulated by internal labor regulations of the hospital.

The operation of the operating nurse is extremely complex and requires clarity and organization. The operating nurse must remember the moral and legal responsibility for the full equipment needed during the operation, and the observance of aseptic surgery. The operating nurse receives a list of forthcoming scheduled operations the day before and carefully selects the appropriate sets of instruments and equipment.

Each operating nurse must:

• know how to prepare suture and dressing material, technique and methods of blood transfusion;

• be able to help a doctor with endoscopic examinations;

• Know the course of all typical operations;

• be able to apply all typical bandages, transport tires and gypsum limbs;

• to monitor the safety and health of equipment, to take care of the repair of defective inventory;

• Systematically replenish the operating equipment with necessary medications, dressings, linens and inventory;

• directly participate in the operation as an assistant surgeon, when necessary, perform the duties of an assistant;

• be flawlessly neat and clean, wear clothes made of cotton fabric, have clean soft hands, skin without wounds and flaking, shorten the nails.
