Perennial herbaceous plant 30-100 cm high, containing in all organs orange milky juice. Root stem, branching, with short rhizome. Stems branched. Leaves are regular, green on top, bluish below, outline is wide elliptical. Leaf plates are deeply incompletely pinnate with major ovate, tortuous-lobed or incised, interdigital lobes, often basally lower;lower leaves petiolate;the upper ones are sessile. Flowers are collected at the end of stalks and branches in umbellate inflorescences on pedicels. Calyx from 2 sepals, dropping when opening the flower. Corolla proper, of 4 petals;the petals are bright yellow, back ovate, up to 16 mm long. Stamens are many, they are shorter than the corolla. Pistil is one, with the upper ovary, elongated-cylindrical. Fruit is a pod-shaped capsule opening with two valves from the base to the apex. Seeds are ovate, black, shiny, with a white comb-like appendage. Blooms from May to autumn. Fruits ripen since June.
Purity is widespread in the middle belt of the European part of Russia, in Western Siberia, in the Far East. It occurs as a weed plant in orchards, orchards, near dwellings, along pastures.
