Clothes for room temperature.
The most difficult question for a doctor - in a book or in an office - is how to dress a child. I can give only the most general instructions. A child weighing less than 2.5 kg does not yet have a normal thermoregulation of the body, and it must be kept in an incubator. If its weight is between 2.5 and 4 kg, the child does not need to be heated outside. In a fairly warm room( at a temperature of 20-22 degrees), he will take care of himself if he is dressed in a cotton undershirt and covered with one or two light wool blankets.
By the time he weighs 4 kg, his thermoregulation system starts working normally, and the baby gets a layer of fat that helps keep the heat. Now in cold weather, he can sleep in a room at a temperature of 16 degrees.
It is not necessary that the child's room is less than 16 degrees( this is already too cold). At 16 degrees the child should be dressed in a sweater to keep the shoulders and hands warm, and covered with two or three light woolen blankets.
Relatively full babies and older children need less clothing than adults. Children rather dress unnecessarily warm than not enough. And this is not good for them. If the child is always dressed too warmly, his body loses the ability to adapt to changes in temperature. And such a child can catch a cold. Therefore, as a general rule, dress your child better and watch him closely. Do not try to dress him so that he had warm hands: most of the warm enough-enough babies keep their hands cold. Touch the child's legs or neck. But first of all, follow the complexion. If the child is cold, his cheeks turn pale and he can start to whine.
When you put a sweater or shirt over your head, remember that the baby's head is more egg-shaped than a ball-shaped head. First, collect a sweater in your hands, then put it on the baby's head from the nape of the front, stretching gradually when you reach the forehead and nose. When removing a sweater, first take the child's arms out of the sleeves. Collect the sweater in your hands when it is on the child's neck. Remove the front part from the head, avoiding the nose and forehead( and the back part remains in the sweater), then remove in the direction of the nape.
