The use of a variety of chewing gums, tablets, and patches helps to stop smoking and reduce unpleasant sensations. But some of these funds will not be enough. Much more important is the existence of a strong desire to get rid of addiction and will power. Also, a natural enzyme discovered by scientists of the Scripps Research Institute is able to help in this. They came to the conclusion that this natural enzyme can bind to nicotine and this occurs before the harmful substance enters the brain. After binding, the enzyme promotes the cleavage of nicotine, which makes it impossible to enjoy the process of smoking.

Work on the search for such a natural enzyme continued for almost 30 years, but only now have been crowned with success. This enzyme was found under the fields of tobacco in the soil, it is produced by the bacteria Pseudomonas putida and is called NicA2.As a source of nitrogen and carbon, these bacteria completely use nicotine.

The findings, to which scientists led by Professor Kim Yand came during the study, were confirmed by the following experiment. In particular, they took the blood serum of mice that contained nicotine( the dosage of this substance was the equivalent of one smoked cigarette). After the introduction of the natural enzyme NicA2 into the laboratory animals, it was noted that the half-life of nicotine had significantly decreased - this time was equal to 9-15 minutes instead of 2-3 hours.

Also scientists conducted another experiment that was aimed at testing how effectively the detected natural enzyme can be used as a component of a drug designed to get rid of addiction. For this, the enzyme was heated to a temperature of 36.7 degrees for three weeks. After this, the metabolites formed during this process were studied in detail( their toxicity was determined). This experiment determined that the natural enzyme does not give any toxic substances and is completely stable throughout the time.

At the same time, scientists believe that it is possible to increase the dosage of the natural enzyme NicA2, which will lead to an even greater decrease in the half-life of nicotine.

This study is aimed at creating a drug that would help in the fight against smoking. Scientists believe that further work may lead to the fact that the effectiveness of the injection of such an enzyme can persist for a month.
