Treatment of acute maxillary sinusitis with effective methods
Sinusitis is an acute inflammation of the maxillary sinus. Often, this pathology develops against a background of acute rhinitis. Disease-causing microorganisms can be transferred to the maxillary sinuses with a blood stream, for example, if there is a flu or measles.
Often the cause of inflammation are carious teeth, especially the upper dentition. In addition, sinus wall trauma, nasal surgery followed by tamponade also provoke the development of this disease.
If a patient develops acute sinusitis, the treatment should be timely and take into account not only the clinical picture of the disease, but also the cause, otherwise the recurrence of inflammation of the airway sinuses of the nose is likely. It is worth noting that sinusitis can be viral or bacterial in nature and more often occurs in people with weakened immunity.
Factors contributing to the development of the disease
There are a number of favorable factors that provoke the development of this pathology: violation of nasal breathing, which is observed, for example, in the curvature of the nasal septum, vasomotor or hypertrophic rhinitis. Acute antritis in children often develops:
- in the presence of adenoids or in allergic diseases of the nose;
- chronic diseases and helminthic invasion, which reduce the body's resistance;
- improper treatment of colds - unjustified prescription of antibiotics, refusal of vasoconstrictive therapy;
- bacteriocarrier and the presence of chronic infection in the body, especially staphylococcal nature;
- congenital malformations of anatomical structures of the nose;
- mycoplasmal and chlamydial infection in the body;
- malignant tumors in the region of the nose;
- hit in the nose of foreign objects;
- chronic tonsillitis and pharyngitis.
Symptoms of acute sinusitis
With easy flow, patients experience pressure in the area of the affected sinus, with the progression of the disease, there is severe pain, turning to the forehead and cheekbones, and toothache can also develop in the corresponding half of the face, which becomes more intense when chewing. If the patient has acute sinusitis - the symptoms of the disease are associated with both local and systemic( common) manifestations of the infectious and inflammatory process in the upper respiratory tract.
In patients worsens nasal breathing, there are secretions that first have a mucous nature, and eventually become purulent. I must say that catarrhal acute sinusitis is the initial stage of the disease, which is manifested by the appearance of serous discharge, as well as minor swelling of the face.
Body temperature rises, but does not reach high values. If the treatment is not performed in time, the disease becomes chronic and can be complicated by the development of a purulent inflammatory process.
Acute purulent maxillary sinusitis is characterized by severe headache, which is worse when the head is tilted forward. The nose is heavily embedded, the voice becomes nasal. The patient can feel a putrid smell, which is an indirect proof of the development of a purulent form of sinusitis.
Characteristic of significant temperature rise and general weakness. Often patients refuse to eat and sleep badly. There is also photophobia and lacrimation, the general condition of patients is disturbed.
One-sided lesion of nasal sinuses develops most often. Acute right-sided sinusitis is aggravated by a lesion of the corresponding maxillary sinus, which is accompanied by general symptoms - chills, fever, unilateral nasal congestion, pain in the sinus area, amplified by pressing the appropriate side of the face.
In acute bilateral sinusitis( especially with its polypous form), most patients experience a smear violation. Often with such a sinusitis you can see the puffiness of the eyelids and the swelling of the soft tissues in the area of the affected sinuses.
If the patient develops acute sinusitis - treatment should be performed at the first signs of the disease, since this pathology can cause severe intracranial complications - meningitis, brain abscess, edema of the meninges.
Treatment and therapy
At the heart of the traditional treatment of acute sinusitis is the forced excretion of mucus and the fight against infection. For this purpose, bacterial or antiviral drugs are prescribed in accordance with the etiological factor, in severe cases, steroid preparations are prescribed.
To reduce inflammation and facilitate nasal breathing, anti-inflammatory and decongestant drugs are shown in the form of a spray. To reduce pain, you must take painkillers. In the allergic nature of sinusitis, antihistamines are indicated. It is worth noting that in other cases, these drugs are not prescribed, because they are able to dry the mucosa and thicken the discharge, which makes it difficult to release the maxillary sinuses and nasal passages from a pathological secret.
Treatment of acute genyantritis with folk remedies includes copious drinking, carrying out steam inhalations and dropping into the nose with drops that contain potato juice and blue onion with honey or juice of onions of snowdrops of blue. I must say that the measures that determine how to treat acute sinusitis should be selected according to the nature of the inflammatory process in the maxillary sinuses, as well as taking into account the general condition of the patient. It is only a qualified otolaryngologist who can evaluate not only the state of the maxillary sinuses, but also the general condition of the patient, at which stage of the disease it is necessary to attach antibiotics to the therapy.
