For ultrasound, as a rule, there is no need for special preparatory measures for patients. At the same time, when examining the organs of the gastrointestinal tract( mainly in the study of the pancreas) it is necessary to perform the obligatory purification of the intestine with the aid of a mug of Esmarch.

The patient should be warned that such an examination is carried out only on an empty stomach. Examination of the gas organs should be performed provided the bladder is sufficiently full. Depending on the organ being examined, the patient is asked to take the appropriate position necessary for the best consideration of all probable pathologies. Skin over the site of direct exposure of the ultrasound machine is treated with a special gel. The nurse should warn the patient that a small sheet( diaper) and a towel( napkin) should be taken for the study.

Ultrasound of the small pelvis( bladder, uterus, appendages, prostate)

The study is performed for diagnostic purposes in diseases of the pelvic organs.

The patient is warned in advance about the upcoming study, time and place. For 1 - 1.5 hours before the study, he should drink 1 liter of liquid;before research - should not urinate.

Ultrasound of the abdominal cavity( pancreas, liver, gallbladder, kidney)

Ultrasound is performed according to the doctor's prescription for diagnostic purposes with diseases of the abdominal cavity.

The patient is warned in advance about the place, time of the study.3 days before the study, the diet is rich in fiber-rich food and gas-producing products: beans, potatoes, cabbage, fresh fruits and vegetables, black bread, fresh milk. If the patient has flatulence, 3 days before the test, activated charcoal should be used( 3 tablets 3 times a day), enzymatic preparations( for example, festal) according to Table 1.3 times a day. When constipating a patient in the evening before the procedure, it is necessary to perform a cleansing enema.

Ultrasound of the heart, thyroid

Special preparation for ultrasound of the heart, thyroid is not required.

The use of the diagnostic procedure of ultrasound does not cause side effects, does not have any contraindications, therefore its use is possible for any groups of patients.
