What is the danger of bilateral renal pyelonectasia?
Pyelonectasia of the kidneys is called the anatomical pathological expansion of pelvis. This phenomenon is not considered an independent disease - it serves as an indirect sign that there are violations in the outflow of urine from the pelvis. The reason for this can serve as an anomaly of the structure, infection, etc.
Causes of bilateral pyelonectasia of the kidneys
Two-sided pyelonectasia of the kidneys develops, as we already mentioned above, with a weak outflow from the pelvis of urine or with its direct hit back into the kidney. Such a phenomenon is observed during the oncoming reverse flow of the bladder. Of course, doctors also call several other reasons that contribute to the development of the disease:
- Organic acquired. It is a narrowing of the ureter of a traumatic or inflammatory nature, ovulation of the kidneys, inflammation of the ureter, tumors in the urinary system and the nearest organs, urolithiasis.
- Dynamic acquired. This includes tumors of the prostate and urethra, narrowing of the urethra, adenoma, various infectious processes, hormonal changes, inflammation of the kidneys. All these ailments lead to an increase in the volume of urine.
- Organic congenital. Various anomalies that occur with the development of the wall of the urinary tract, ureter, or kidney.
- Dynamic congenital. Constriction, as well as embarrassment of the urethra, phimosis, neurogenic disruptions in the process of urination.
Possible complications of
In adults, kidney pyelonectasia is most often almost asymptomatic. Observed only signs of the underlying disease, which was the result or the primary cause of the enlargement of the pelvis.
In turn, stagnation of urine often provokes sclerosis of the kidney, functional kidney failure, atrophy of all kidney tissue and even inflammatory processes in the kidneys, including a disease called pyelonephritis.
Double-sided pyeloectasia is often accompanied by the following diseases:
- Ectopic ureter. The disease is characterized by a confluence of the ureter in girls in the vagina, in boys - in the urethra. This phenomenon is often accompanied by a clear doubling of the kidney, and then by pyeloectasia of the upper part of the deformed organ.
- Urethroret. During the confluence of the bladder, the ureter is inflated in the form of a vesicle, and the outlet itself in this case is in a somewhat narrowed state. In the lumen of the urethra, an additional cavity is observed during ultrasound. Often on the same side, the doctor also discovers pyeloectasia.
- Disease of valves in boys in the posterior urethra. In this case, ultrasound gives an opportunity to reveal an obvious expansion of the ureters. A bilateral pyeloectasia is also found.
- Megaureter. The ureter abruptly increases. The cause can be high pressure directly in the bladder, vesicoureteral reflux, as well as constriction in the lower part of the ureter.
- Bladder ureter reflux. With this disease, a process of reverse urine outflow from the urea to the kidney occurs. The disease is accompanied by special changes in the size of the whole pelvis with a single or repeated ultrasound.
This is important! As a rule, pyeloectasia of both kidneys is characterized by a severe, protracted course and frequent relapses even after the final cure of the disease.
Diagnosis and treatment of the disease
Often, kidney pyeloectasia is manifested in the fetus even during the pregnancy of a future mother or during an ultrasound during the first year of life of the child. It should be noted that this disease in boys manifests itself several times more often than in female representatives. The latest statistics indicate that a significant increase in the pelvis is inherently congenital in nature.
Sometimes this type of pathology occurs during the intensive growth of all internal organs and the body as a whole. As for adults, they suffer from this disease, usually because the ureter blocks the stone. It is for this reason that the periodic holding of an ultrasound in an expert is an obligatory procedure if a person has urolithiasis. Systematic conduct of ultrasound is necessary in order to avoid the development of any complications.
The ultrasound examination allows the doctor to reveal the stature of pelvis sizes before and after urination. In addition, during this study, the patient is identified their exact size, and their possible changes are projected for one year. As other additional methods, a doctor may prescribe urography and cystography. These procedures are relevant, because the disease can progress, and the methods for determining it are constantly being improved.
With regard directly to the treatment of pyelonectasis of the kidneys, the tactics of treatment must necessarily be determined by a good doctor who is a specialist in this field. The treatment regimen is made on the basis of the results of all the studies conducted by him. Of course, eliminating the underlying causes of ailment is the main step in the therapy of a disease such as pyeloectasia. But it is important to note that it is only possible surgically to eliminate complex congenital anomalies.
What is the danger of this disease?
The obstruction of urinary outflow from the kidney may increase with time, thereby causing compression, atrophy of all renal tissue, as well as a significant decrease in kidney function. Inflammation of the kidney can also begin, which will lead to worsening of her condition and sclerosis of the kidney.
Preventive measures
Everyone should pay special attention to disease prevention. To preventive measures directed against pyelonectasia of the kidneys, include:
- compliance with all medical indications during pregnancy;
- limited consumption of liquids;
- timely and most importantly - a full-fledged treatment of any emerging diseases of urea.
Remember that the disease is easier to prevent than to treat it later!
