  • Grow tadpoles

    WHAT YOU WOULD NEED:

    • a net or a bucket;

    • glass container;

    • water from the reservoir;

    • algae from the pond or lettuce;

    • stone;

    • Tadpoles.

    1. Prepare for the tadpoles a glass tank with water from the pond. An aquarium for fish is good. Ensure that there are no soapy or chemical impurities in it. Fill it with water from a pond where you will catch tadpoles. Put a suitable stone on the bottom. One gallon( 3.8 liters) of water should be taken no more than two tadpoles. The aquarium should not be put in a place where it will be exposed to direct sunlight. The place where it is must be cool.

    2. Water in the tank must be replaced with fresh water from the pond, and the tank itself must be cleaned( without soap or chemicals) at least once every three days. If necessary, even more often. Do not use tap water - it is fatal for tadpoles.

    3. Using a bucket or netting, catch tadpoles and bring them home in a bucket with a little water from the pond.

    4. You can feed them with algae from a pond or give them chopped lettuce, previously boiled for fifteen minutes( you can store the boiled lettuce in the fridge.) Give them a pinch of lettuce each day. If the lettuce remains, reduce its quantity, otherwise the water may get dirty. If the lettuce disappears quickly, slightly increase the daily norm.

    5. After a few weeks( depending on the type of tadpoles and their age at the time you caught them), they will start to turn into frogs. They will have small protuberances that will turn into hind legs, then the front legs will start to grow. The tail will gradually disappear. As soon as this happens, they will stop eating. In addition, you will notice that the mouth will begin to look more like a froggy. A stone is needed for the period when they begin to form lungs and they will breathe air.

    6. This is the time when it's time to release the frogs into the pond, from where you took them originally.
