Reproduction by seeds
This method of obtaining plant material has several advantages. It is the easiest and cheapest, requires a small area, the seeds are usually distinguished by high germination. With the preservation of seeds under favorable conditions, most do not lose their vital functions for many years. Seeds in the rooms should be sown in pots, pots or small boxes. To accelerate their germination, it is advisable first to soak the seeds in warm water for at least 12 to 24 hours, while changing water 2-3 times.
For the majority of crops, the best substrate is "Rose".You can prepare the substrate by yourself, using for this sod, leaf ground, humus and sand in the ratio 1: 1: 1: 1.To disinfect the substrate, we recommend adding a little crushed coal to it. Filling the boxes or a plate with a substrate, it must be sealed by tapping on the sill or the edge of the table. For convenience of work, the substrate in the box must be 1.5 to 2 cm below its edges. Large seeds, such as beans, peas, radish, are placed in grooves and covered with 0.4-0.5 cm of soil. Sown seeds are pressed lightly with a board. The seeds of medium size are also sown in grooves, as well as large ones, the backfill depth is 0.2 - 0.3 cm. After sowing the soil must be watered, it is best to use a spray gun for this. Very small seeds should be sown scattered, covered with a shallow substrate by 0.1 - 0.2 cm. Water better from the atomizer. So that the crops do not dry out, they can be closed for a while with a newspaper or glass. For the convenience of sowing small seeds and their better placement on the surface of the soil, we recommend that the seeds be mixed with dry sand.
Boxes should be kept warm until emergence of sprouts, it is possible in a dark place, the substrate in them should always be wet. With the emergence of sprouts, they are lightly sprinkled with very light soil( not more than 0.1-0.2 cm) and placed on light windows, mainly southern exposure( in extreme cases, eastern or western). In the bright sun in the early days, it is recommended to cover flaky seedlings with newspaper or gauze. It is very important to make sure that the soil in the seed boxes is always slightly damp, but you should remember the golden rule of the gardener - it is better not to top up than pour it. At very thick shoots, thinning is necessary. Do this usually after watering, remove weaker plants. When two real leaves appear in the seedlings, a pick is performed. Plants are transplanted into small peat-pot plants or any packages( from fermented milk, kefir, milk). In the bags it is necessary to cut the bottom holes for excess water drainage. The picking can also be carried out directly in the tank, where the plants will remain for the entire growing period. Immediately after the picking, the seedlings should be poured slightly with warm water.
In the room conditions it is possible to propagate seeds and such perennial plants as tea, laurel, laurel, olive, coffee. At seed reproduction, these plants adapt better to growing in apartments.
However, the seeds of laurel and tea due to the large content of fatty oils in them quickly lose their germination, so they must be sown in autumn immediately after harvest( October-November).Before sowing, the soft pericarp is scraped off from the laurel seeds. For sowing, light soil is prepared. Sowing is carried out to a depth of 3 to 4 cm.
To obtain well-developed and healthy tea seedlings, the seeds are sown in winter or early spring in a box, pot or tub to a depth of 4-5 cm. Shoots usually appear 30 to 45 days after sowing. When the seedling reaches 20 -25 cm, to increase its tillering it is cut at a height of 10 cm from the soil surface.
Japanese, laurel, pomegranate, olive, feijoa seeds also reproduce well.
