Pruning of garden plantations
Tree before and after trimming
CUTTING PRINCIPLES
General principles that should be followed when pruning garden plants can be formulated in the form of the following "precepts" of the cutter.
1. Do not cut very young trees, otherwise the beginning of fruiting will slow down.
2. Bring the branches to the horizontal position, and adjust the growth force by the position of the branch( the more horizontally the branch is located, the faster and more abundant it will bear)
3. Do not leave competitors, otherwise you will not get a solid skeleton of the tree.
4. There is no gain( less than 25-30 cm), start to cut harder.
5. Observe the subordination of branches. Each branch must take its place in space.
6. It is better to cut one large branch than many small ones.
7. Do not leave sharp corners in the tree, as branches can break off.
8. Do not rush to get rid of small branches: they feed the tree.
9. Cutting a branch, think about a worthy replacement.
10. Carry out pruning annually and gently( "on the kidney", "on the ring", "on the side branch").Young trees need to be cut before the buds are bud, fruit bearing - you can before the flowering.
And one more general provision: pruning plants can not be done on a pattern( "cut one size fits all").
First, when pruning, you need to consider varietal features in the construction of the crown. For example, in the Antonovka variety the crown is moderately thickened, the branches are firmly attached to the trunk, while in the Cinnamon striped branch, the legs are tanned due to the poor awakening of the kidneys, the crown does not thicken.
Secondly, even within the same variety it is almost impossible to find the same trees. Therefore, we need an individual approach. And it is no accident that the Polish gardener Sh. Penenzhik said: "Every tree gardener should know in person."
In this regard, pruning can be considered a kind of art. And, when pruning, the gardener should carefully look at the trees, notice their reaction and next time correct.
After all, pruning should be done annually not only in spring and autumn, but also in summer. There are summer operations - prischipka, dipping and weaving branches, breakage of shoots, furrowing bark, kerbovka and other techniques.
Consider pruning fruit trees, taking into account their age. For simplicity, it is proposed to depart from the classical( according to PG Shett) division of tree life into 9 age periods, and note the features of trimming 3 groups of trees - young( before fruiting), fruit bearing and long-fruiting( old).
