A low shrub up to 1 m high with a light gray bark, strongly prickly. Rhizome is superficial,

is thick, long, with few thin roots. The stem is straight, densely acicular, subulate, weakly branched. Zamaniha has long been known in folk medicine as a tonic. Its drugs have a stimulating effect on the central nervous system, reduce the elevated blood sugar level in the initial stages of diabetes mellitus, increase in small doses, reduce blood pressure in large doses, and significantly increase diuresis. From the plant, an alcohol tincture is prepared, it is applied inside by drops. The drug is low toxicity, but with prolonged use, hives and other skin complications are possible.
