Nutrition of the nursing mother should be strengthened and rational. Strengthened is considered such a food, in which the
amount of nutrients is increased compared to the normal one-third. The daily ration during breastfeeding should contain about 130 grams of protein, 130 grams of fat and 500 grams of carbohydrates, which is 4000 large calories.
The increased nutrition of the nursing mother is necessary for the formation of milk in an amount that ensures the entire need for food of the infant in the first months of his life. The main role in the nutrition of the nursing mother, as well as during pregnancy, is performed by the protein. It should be contained in the diet in an amount not less than 2 grams per kilogram of the woman's weight. First of all, a protein of milk and dairy products is needed to provide the mother's body with the substance necessary for the production of breast milk. Milk and dairy products are also a valuable source of fat. They should not be restricted in the diet, even with a tendency to fullness. In these cases, it is advisable to drastically reduce or even eliminate fat intake, significantly reduce the amount of butter in the diet, replacing them with vegetable oil.
The restriction in the diet of carbohydrates is crucial in preventing obesity of the nursing mother. Limit carbohydrates and fats in the diet only when the weight of the woman is progressively increasing. A major role in the fight against obesity is the diet;excessive appetite can be prevented by the appointment of frequent( up to 6 times a day) meals in small portions.
In the diet of a nursing mother, not only the content of proteins, fats and carbohydrates should be increased, but also the content of vitamins, mineral salts and liquid. Regular intake of fish oil at 15 grams per day ensures the receipt of vitamins A and D important for the nursing mother. The rest of the vitamins a woman receives with a slightly increased dietary intake also in increased quantities.
Numerous studies have shown that in normal nutrition in the winter and spring time of the breast milk may not be enough vitamins.
Therefore, on the recommendation of the doctor, vitamin C.
should be additionally introduced into the food of the nursing mother. A significant need of the nursing mother in mineral salts, especially in the salts of calcium, phosphorus and magnesium. During feeding, the consumption of mineral salts, including calcium, by the mother's organism is great. Therefore, in the diet of a nursing mother, foods rich in mineral salts should be included: at least 50 grams of curd per day, 20 grams of cheese, 3 cups of milk, 1 egg, vegetables, especially fresh greens, fruits and berries, bread from coarse flour, bread withbran.
A lactating mother should avoid excessive fat intake, as it impairs the absorption of calcium.
For the production of milk, a nursing mother needs a considerable amount of liquid. However, it should not be allowed to drink excessively, as they are overloaded by the cardiovascular system. The total amount of free liquid in the ration of a nursing mother should not exceed 2 liters per day. It should be taken mainly in the form of milk, as well as fruit and berry juices, not just tea, water, lemonade, etc. It is recommended to drink a glass of liquid before each feeding, preferably milk.
Breastfeeding mother must adhere to the regime of frequent feeding: along with four main meals she should drink milk twice more before feeding.
