Hearing Loss
The symptoms of hearing loss can be different depending on the age of the child.
Symptoms in infants
In the first three to four months the baby does not respond to sound.
He sees you only when he sees. The sounds that the child emits are deep and vibrant, and they are more likely to be felt than you hear.
The range of sounds issued by the child is limited.
Symptoms in older children
The child has a delay in the appearance of speech or his speech is incomprehensible.
The child does not seem to hear you or concentrates on your lips when you speak.
When a child is growing up, you may notice that he hears only sounds and does not hear others;this may be due to the fact that the child has lost a hearing only in relation to high sounds or the cause is a defect of only one ear.
The child very loudly turns on the radio or TV.
The child does not respond if you are talking to him from behind.
Poor school performance may indicate a hearing problem.
Possible causes of
Hearing loss can occur for various reasons:
is an infectious disease of the mother during pregnancy;
is a congenital or genetic disease;
ear structure defect;
• illness of nerves controlling hearing;
• respiratory infections that cause fluid accumulation in the middle ear;
• adenoids;
• sulfur plug;
• injuries;
• constant loud sounds( headphones, noisy urban environment).
Parents should not lose heart in the child's loss of hearing. Even for babies there are effective methods of determining the severity of hearing, but often the trouble is first noticed by the parents.
Rumor is very important for the development of normal child speech. Parents should play with young children and encourage them to experiment with all sorts of sounds that are pronounced in their presence.
If your child does not respond to any sounds, consult a doctor.
For an accurate hearing measurement, an audiologist and an otolaryngologist may be required. For babies, a special study can be used to test the child's nervous reaction to hearing in a dream.
Tell your doctor about your observations and problems, no matter how small they seem to you.
If you notice any of the symptoms mentioned above, call a physician within a reasonable time.
If a fluid has accumulated in the ear, a low dose of an antibiotic may be prescribed daily or a middle ear bleeding.
In the case where the cause is nerve damage, part of the treatment can be a hearing aid and sign language. A child who has lost hearing can learn to speak, although not always clearly. With coordinated support, a child with a partial hearing loss can lead a healthy, productive life.
