Is it harmful to have a raw diet?
With the rejection of heat treatment, products retain most of their nutritional value. But such an approach in nutrition has not only advantages. What are the arguments of the opponents of raw food?
Firstly, not everyone benefits from such food. It is contraindicated in certain diseases, so if you want to switch to raw food, you should consult your doctor. There is evidence that prolonged consumption of food in its raw form can cause osteoporosis and amenorrhea. Also, such nutrition leads to a lack of protein in the body.
Children and adolescents should give up raw food. A growing organism should receive the most complete nutrition. If a child does not receive important substances, it can lead to many serious disorders and pathologies. Also, do not get involved in raw food for pregnant women and those who are just planning a pregnancy. Such nutrition significantly reduces the likelihood of a healthy conception.
Secondly, you need to remember that some products of plant origin will be most useful after heat treatment. For example, this can be said about tomatoes in which, after prolonged baking or quenching, the amount of lycopene, a substance that is an antioxidant, increases significantly. Another useful substance can be called beta-carotene, which will be better absorbed by the body after baking carrots with a spoon of oil. It is also important that in most cases, the taste of cooked food is better compared to raw foods.
If raw food is not used for self-grown vegetables and fruits, then remember that they contain a considerable amount of nitrates and other chemicals. With the usual washing of fruits and vegetables, these substances remain almost completely. They can leave when cooking and other heat treatment. For example, in the process of cooking up to 60% of nitrates passes into water.
Separately it is necessary to tell about influence of raw foodstuff on a status of a teeth. Supporters of this diet believe that the use of gums is thoroughly chewing raw fruits and vegetables. But at the same time it should be taken into account that in many vegetables and fruits there are acids that aggressively affect the enamel of the teeth, destroying it. Scientists have proved that the followers of raw foodstuffs develop enamel erosion faster than those who eat thermally processed food.
