One of the most common diseases of bone tissue is osteoporosis. It is characterized by a violation of the structure of bone tissue with a simultaneous decrease in its density. This can lead to frequent fractures of the bones, which are provoked even by a slight load. Density and hardness of bone tissue are provided by a sufficient number of mineral substances - primarily calcium and phosphorus. In the case of osteoporosis, the level of these microelements is markedly reduced, which leads to this disease. It was also found that the basis of osteoporosis is also the hormonal changes that occur in the body and lead to a metabolic disorder.

Most often, this disease occurs in women during the menopause, as well as in older people aged more than 60-70 years. It is the development of osteoporosis that becomes the main cause of bone fractures, which are quite common at this age.

There are two main types of this disease - primary and secondary. Primary is also called senile or senile, it develops more often in old age. It is characterized by the following risk factors: small growth, fragile physique, earlier cessation of menstruation( up to 50 years of age), and later their onset( after 15 years). Also, additional risk factors are infertility and a long lactation period( more than six months). Most often, primary osteoporosis occurs in women - almost 5 times more often.

Secondary develops due to disruption of hormonal, endocrine and metabolic processes in the body. Also observed disorders of calcium metabolism can occur due to malnutrition or excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages, certain medicines, the development of chronic renal failure. Of the hormonal disorders that lead to secondary osteoporosis, we can distinguish a decrease in ovarian function in women, increased activity of the thyroid gland, increased functional activity of the adrenal cortex, as well as diabetes mellitus.

For the treatment of osteoporosis, which develops in the postmenopausal period, hormone replacement therapy is used. The use of medicines in this group allows not only to reduce the manifestations of symptoms of menopause - they prevent psychological instability, tides, reduce the dryness of the skin. Also, the use of hormonal drugs in the treatment of osteoporosis positively affects bone tissue, contributing to its natural recovery. According to the studies, the appointment of estrogens to women in the post-menopausal period promotes an increase in bone density and reduces the likelihood of fractures by about 27%.
