Chronic antral gastritis, its manifestation and methods of treatment
Almost any disease without proper treatment sooner or later becomes chronic. This rule also applies to stomach diseases. Many people ignore the pain and discomfort in the stomach, try to self-medicate, but at best only achieve a short-term elimination of unpleasant symptoms. At this time of relative prosperity, which is achieved with the help of medicines, the disease continues to progress, goes into a chronic form. Such a gastritis is always cured more heavily than in an acute form. In most cases, patients who have chronic antral gastritis, are forced to follow a diet all their lives and from time to time repeat the course of preventive treatment.
Basic information
By its nature, chronic antral gastritis is a form of gastritis. It is characterized by a hypersecretory function, therefore at this disease the acidity of the stomach is always increased. The name of this kind of gastritis was due to the fact that the main focus of changes is located in the antrum of the stomach. This department is the lowest located, it goes into the 12-colon, which is separated from it only by the pylorus ring. It is impossible to find a clearly visualized line that would separate the antrum section directly from the rest of the body of the stomach, but due to some structural differences, it is still possible to identify division by department using microscopic research. The antral department accounts for about a third of the total stomach. In the normal state, the acidity in this department is lowered, but if the glands of this department are inflamed, they are unable to cope with it, so half-digested food with high acidity gets into the intestines, which leads to irritation and inflammation of the duodenal wall( duodenitis).
Dangers of chronic antral gastritis
Chronic antral subatrophic gastritis indicates the presence of a process of atrophic changes that have not yet occurred definitively. If it is a multifocal gastritis, it means that not only the antral department is affected, but the rest of the stomach area is affected. This can last a long time, but in the absence of normal treatment and prevention of exacerbations, subatrophic gastritis passes into atrophic, and then into chronic anthral atrophic gastritis. In this state, all or some of the glands located in the antrum and atrophy are responsible for the production of mucus, which is designed to protect the walls of the stomach from its own acid. Since antral atrophic gastritis leads to a lack of mucus, inflammation of the walls of other areas of the stomach begins.
In addition to directly problems with the secretion of protective mucus, chronic gastritis of the antrum is accompanied by the constant presence of a variety of bacteria, since an environment in which acidity is maximally reduced is an excellent place for various lamblia, fungi, and viruses. They easily enter the intestine and infect it.
The cause of the development of this form of gastritis is often the bacterium helicobacter pylori, as well as autoimmune processes. Chronic erosive antral gastritis is also caused by this bacterium.
Complex treatment program
Before starting treatment it is necessary to conduct additional studies to determine the acidity in different parts of the stomach and the general infection with the pathogenic bacterium of the human body. For 1 -2 days before the start of therapy, a short course of therapeutic starvation is required, which will allow cleaning the gastrointestinal tract. At this time, you can drink only mineral water or weak black tea.
Treatment of this form of gastritis( antral atrophic gastritis) should be aimed at destroying the bacterium that caused it. To do this, 2 antibiotics and antisecretory medicines are most often used. In the event that such therapy is ineffective, metronidazole, a bismuth drug, tetracycline is added to it. As ancillary agents, enveloping agents are used. Only after the pathogenic microflora has been destroyed, it is necessary to restore the normal secretion of the antrum and the functions of the stomach.
Do not forget about the importance of diet, as improper nutrition is an additional damaging factor and slows down effective treatment. Health food implies the use of boiled and homogenized dishes, which need to eat a little and often. Soups are cooked exclusively on water.
The duration of the course of treatment is 7-14 days. Talk about its effectiveness can be only after 4-6 weeks, since this time is necessary to track the activity of pathogenic microflora, which could not be completely destroyed.
Lack of effective treatment provokes the development of changes in the duodenum - very often untreated in time antral gastritis leads to the development of duodenitis and peptic ulcer, the treatment of which can require a lot of effort and is not always successfully completed. For these diseases, the development of deformation, disturbing the passage of food through the intestine, and persistent pain syndrome is peculiar.
Self-medication in this case is impossible, as it will only contribute to worsening of the patient's condition, it is necessary to consult a specialist at the first signs of trouble.
