The developers of the test used a non-invasive approach, during which they proceeded from the fact that the embryo secretes proteins, traces of which can be found in the mother's urine. A small spectrometer is used to analyze these proteins, which, with the help of the program, detects the necessary substances.
In the development of this test, scientists have tried various algorithms that analyze the composition of urine. The study involved samples from 121 women who were at different periods of pregnancy( from 6 to 10 weeks).Investigating the protein tracks in the samples, the scientists identified combinations that could give information about the probability of miscarriage. Also, algorithms were developed that determine the possibility of twin birth.
In the plans of specialists from the MAP Diagnostics laboratory to make attempts that would allow to combine several algorithms into one and immediately give information on the outcome of pregnancy. It is also required to conduct research on a sufficient number of urine samples - they need at least 10 thousand to ensure that the test has been harmonized and could be used for wide application.
If we talk about the practical use of such a test, then the ethical side of it remains open. If data are obtained that speak in favor of a high probability of the birth of twins, this will allow the woman to be better prepared for such an event. As for the negative result, here all efforts of physicians should be aimed at its prevention.
