Russian scientists conducted a study whose purpose was to determine the relationship between the number of bacteria that live in the intestine and the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes. It was found that the risk of this disease increases significantly when the number of certain bacteria multiplying in the intestine increases.

One of the main signs of diabetes is an elevated glucose level. Scientists have studied the relationship between intolerance to glucose and the presence of certain bacteria in the intestine. In particular, the study carefully studied the bacteria of three groups - representatives of the genera Serratia, Akkermansia and Blautia.

It is important to note that representatives of these groups of bacterial flora can be present in the body of a healthy person. But in certain conditions( in particular, with the development of type 2 diabetes), the number of these bacteria is markedly increased.

In the course of the study, scientists studied the microflora in 92 people. Of these people 48 were healthy, 24 - had some signs of pre-diabetes, and 20 people had diabetes mellitus.

Also during the scientific study, it was possible to determine the relationship between the amount of bifidobacteria and the amount of consumption of food containing fiber. The greatest number of bifidobacteria is characteristic of infants who are breastfed. This group of microorganisms is considered one of the most important components of the intestinal flora as a whole.

Scientists managed to determine that the greatest amount of bifidobacteria in the intestine is noted in those people who consume quite a large amount of fiber. Prior to this study, a similar relationship was made between the amount of fiber consumed and the level of bifidobacteria that live in the intestine. At the same time, it was revealed, then the data of microorganisms is most present among rural residents of the Tuva region in comparison with other regions. The reason for this, according to scientists, is a significant consumption of high-fiber natural foods.

All these data, which were obtained as a result of the studies, help to understand the relationship between the level of some bacteria that make up the intestinal flora and metabolic disorders. Diabetes refers to diseases, which are characterized by changes in metabolic processes and therefore to identify the prerequisites for its occurrence can be by the level of certain bacteria. Direct development of the disease occurs as a result of the launch of an immune response, which is provoked by a high level of certain bacteria.
