  • Erosion of the duodenum: its symptoms and treatment

    Erosions are superficial destruction of epithelial integuments of the duodenum that do not penetrate into the deep muscle layer of the mucosa. With timely diagnosis, they heal positively without the process of scarring.

    The occurrence of erosions is quite common, about half of all cases of duodenal disorders are associated with erosive-hemorrhagic changes in its mucosa.

    Symptoms of erosion

    With duodenal lesions, hemorrhagic syndromes are common. Often it is expressed in the form of a black stool( melena), a little less often - in the form of vomiting with blood impurities or dark viscous mass;

    • decrease in hemoglobin in the blood;
    • due to probable occult( hidden) bleeding, the following symptoms are possible: general weakness, slowly developing anemia, and in the stool there is hidden blood. All this serves as an indication for a detailed examination of the organs of the upper gastrointestinal tract in general and duodenum in particular;
    • as erosion of the duodenum can be provoked by pathologies of the liver and kidneys, then at first symptoms of primary diseases may predominate.

    The human body is a unique system that lends itself to self-regulation and self-renewal. However, prolonged exposure to unfavorable factors can exacerbate the defenses of the body, which leads to the pathogenesis of various diseases. In particular, the erosion of the duodenum can be triggered by such factors:

    • adverse aspects of the neurovegetative basis: stress, fear, nervous overexertion and fatigue, emotional burnout, etc.;
    • irrational diet: irregular eating, unbalanced diet, alcohol abuse, and an abundance of spicy, hot and smoked food depresses the regenerative mechanisms of the epithelium of the duodenal mucosa;
    • prolonged exposure to certain groups of drugs: cardiac and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
    • surgery, severe burns or trauma can provoke erosive changes in the epithelium;
    • erosive-hemorrhagic transformations can be manifested due to the development of pathologies of the organs of the cardiovascular, respiratory systems, as well as the liver and kidneys;
    • oncological problems and much more.

    Prolonged progressive erosion of the duodenum significantly reduces the quality of life of the patient.

    There are complaints of food rejection, frequent vomiting, acute pains, general lethargy. Launched forms of erosion threaten the transition to more severe pathologies, such as anemia and ulcer. Diagnose the problem with accuracy only with the help of an endoscopy performed by a gastroenterologist.

    Depending on the nature of organ damage and other factors, the optimal treatment of duodenal erosion is prescribed. With severe bleeding, urgent surgical intervention is necessary, and the treatment of the problem is performed in the operating room. If the patient's condition( venerable age or categorical refusal of surgery) does not allow for an operative intervention, conservative therapy or a diathermo-coagulation procedure is used.

    One of the important tasks of therapy of duodenal erosion is to maintain the optimal acid regime in the stomach. For this, drugs of internal and intramuscular delivery are used. Small bleeding 1 -i or 2-1 degree( have the most frequent manifestations) is stopped by medication. In the presence of large blood loss, the volume of blood is restored with the help of donor services.

    Diet and nutrition

    For problems with the duodenum, you need to change not only the diet, but also the way of eating. It is better to break the intake of food into several small portions and consume them evenly throughout the day.

    Categorically it is necessary to refuse irritating food, greens and seasonings, also smoked and roasted. Use in food paired meat, fish and cereal. Provide vitamin nutrition.
