According to a new WHO study, there is a significant misunderstanding regarding the development of resistance to antibiotics. In order to draw attention to this problem, an initiative was launched on November 16 aimed at careful use of antibacterial agents. Its goal is to change the understanding of some principles of antibiotic use. The

of WHO relies on studies that have been conducted in 12 countries. They revealed that there is a misunderstanding among the population about the development of resistance to these medicines. The study involved more than 10,000 people who responded to 14 questions regarding antibiotic treatment and the development of possible resistance to them.

The results of such a study did not please the specialists. The majority of the respondents believe that the resistance of the organism develops to antibacterial agents. In fact, people stop reacting to these drugs, but bacteria. There is also the opinion that when a doctor prescribes an antibiotic, there is practically no risk of developing resistance and subsequent infection with microorganisms that stop responding to drugs. At the same time, some respondents believe that dependence is developed only by those who constantly practice treatment with antibacterial agents.

There are many misconceptions about the indications of taking these medications. About 70% of respondents believe that using antibiotics can cope with the flu or cold. In the treatment of these diseases, these drugs are powerless, since the pathogens are viruses. About 26% of the respondents regularly interrupt the prescribed treatment, not finishing it up to the end. Against the background of what has been said, the fact is interesting that more than 80% are perfectly aware of the term "organism resistance to antibiotics".

The results of this study were commented on by the Director General of WHO, who believes that there is an increase in resistance to antibacterial agents and this can be called a new global crisis. This fact threatens effective treatment of infectious diseases and can minimize many of the achievements of medicine. Such rates of development of stability can lead to the fact that in 2050 the mortality for this reason will exceed the figures of lethal outcomes in cancer diseases. Therefore, one of the recommendations is the careful use of antibiotics.
