Saracenia purple
Sarracenia purpurea
This is representative of outstretched sarracenia. Round-shaped jugs lie on the surface of the soil. The lid is more like a frill running along a hole in a jug. Some researchers believe that this species is not an insectivorous plant, and the recumbent position of the jug is due to the need to be freed from excess rainwater that easily enters it through an open mouth. Coloring of the jug in this species is dark purple, the walls slightly folded and velvety.
Flowers large, 5-8 cm in diameter, drooping, light pink in color, with a violet scent.
It should be noted that the sarrachenia has an original shape of the pistil: the upper part of the column has the shape of a large umbrella, and small stigmas are under the blades of this umbrella.
Courtship. Saraceni are quite resistant to growing conditions, especially S. yellowish. She needs a bright light, even with some direct sunlight. Sarracenia absolutely can not stand drafts, at the same time fresh air is favorable for it.
Watering is abundant, during a period of active growth, the pot at a height of about 25 mm should be constantly in the water, from October to April, the plant is watered once a week. After transplantation, the intensity of irrigation increases significantly - up to the daily. During the growing season, the humidity of the air is maintained at 50-60%.Spraying is permissible only for purple sarracenia.
A mixture of top peat, coarse sliced sphagnum, coarse sand in a ratio of 3: 2: 1 with the addition of charcoal is used as a substrate. Sand can be replaced with perlite or vermiculite.
Sarraecenia differ marked period of rest, which occurs in the winter months. The main problem in this period is the need to maintain high air humidity, with a significant drop in temperature - up to 5-7 ° C.You can put a pot with a plant in a greenhouse, which is installed on the windowsill and fenced off from the warm room air with a plastic film.
Saracenia is affected by aphids, worms. Also there were rot, which cause fungi p. Botrytis.
Propagation of sarrachenia by dividing a bush, but this operation is performed only when the plant reaches a considerable size. If too often the division of the sarrachenia is small and may even die.
Reproduction by tuberous roots is possible, in this case the sections are carefully treated with charcoal powder mixed with fungicides.
