Hysterosalpingography( GHA, metrosalpingography) is a method for radiographic examination of the uterine cavity( hysterography) and fallopian tubes by artificial contrasting. Hysterosalpingography is used to determine the cause of infertility, with suspicion of malformation of internal genital organs, submucosal fibroids, endometrial cancer, tubal swelling, adhesions, etc.
GAS is preferably produced during the II phase of the menstrual cycle( 16-20 days).However, when suspected of internal endometriosis, it is advisable to perform this study in phase I, the day after the diagnostic curettage or at the end of menstruation. To perform the GHA, the physician uses water-soluble sistenocontrast preparations( verographin, urographine, etc.).
Preparation for hysterosalpingography( GAS)
- When carrying out hysterosalpingography, the patient should be protected from pregnancy during the menstrual cycle in which the GHA will be produced;
- for 5-7 days before the test to make a blood test, urine and excretions from the cervical canal and vagina to the flora( without the results of these analyzes, the GHA is not in the right);
- on the day of the GHA procedure, a cleansing enema is needed, just before the hysterosalpingography - to empty the bladder.
Hysterosalpingography is performed without anesthesia, so if you have increased pain sensitivity or are afraid that hysterosalpingography is painful, discuss with the physician anesthesia before GHA.
Do not forget to bring hygiene pads. How is the procedure GHA
After the treatment of the vagina and cervix with alcohol solution of iodine in the cervical canal, a uterine cannula is introduced through which 10-12 ml of a 60-76% solution of a water-soluble radiopaque substance is slowly introduced into the uterine cavity under fluoroscopy control, the temperature of which is 36-37 °.As the uterus and uterine tubes fill, radiography is performed. If the X-rays do not show the filling of the fallopian tubes in 3-5 minutes after 20-25 minutes, repeat pictures are taken. The radiographs assess the condition of the cervical canal, the position of the uterus, the configuration and size of its cavity, the location and patency of the fallopian tubes.

You come to the clinic with the results of blood, urine and smear tests, change clothes. The nurse takes you to the office, where the hysterosalpingography procedure will be performed directly. It is necessary to undress and lie down on the couch on your back, a pillow will be placed under your back and pelvis. When treating the sexual organs with a disinfectant, it will tingle a little. The procedure for insertion of the cannula is absolutely painless. When giving the radiocontrast solution, there is a feeling of filling the uterus, bursting, pressure, at the end of the process it can be a little painful( as it hurts on the first day of menstruation).In this position, you will need to idle for a while, so that the doctor took a couple of shots. The GHA examination may be accompanied by a short-term increase in body temperature, bleeding and abdominal pain( pass on their own), allergic reactions. Rarely do fainting occur after the GHA procedure.

Consequences of hysterosalpingography
