Gaylardia
Description. Under this name, various garden hyaluria hyalardia are united and grown.
Gailardia is a very beautiful garden plant with large sunflowers, forming a lush shrub up to 70 cm high. Leaves are basal, assembled into a rosette, lanceolate, deeply dissected;stems are leafy, branched, curved. Peduncles long, flexible. Inflorescence - a basket up to 8-10 cm in diameter. The lingual flowers( petals) are large yellow, orange, dark red, tubular flowers are brown, purple, and form a spectacular convex velvety center. The ends of the petals are usually light. Blooms from the end of June until frost on numerous shoots. After flowering on the top of the peduncle there is a round, pubescent, slightly prickly seed-ball. They use gaylardium for planting in mixed flower beds, for cuttings, for group plantings in combination with perennials, often against the background of bushes, for cutting. There are garden forms and varieties with a lower bush and large terry inflorescences.
Cultivation and care. Gaylardia is considered a plant unpretentious in culture. It blooms well in open sunny areas with dry light fertile soils. In principle, gaylardia is suitable for any sufficiently cultivated garden soils, it does not tolerate fertilizer with manure and excess of stagnant moisture. Feed the plants during the budding period with a full mineral fertilizer. To preserve decorations, faded inflorescences should be cut off regularly.
Gaylardia is sufficiently drought-resistant and can withstand prolonged periods of lack of moisture.
Gaylardia is propagated vegetatively by dividing the bush and seeds. Division of the bush is best done in early spring, as gaylardia late blooms, or in early September, so that the divided plants managed to start. When propagating by seeds, they are sown in April in film greenhouses or ridges. Landing in the place is made in August at a distance of 25-30 cm from each other, the seedlings bloom for the second year.
Without transplantation grows in one place for 4-5 years. Since gaylardia blooms late, transplantation should be done early in the spring.
