Creation of a flower garden
The creation of any form of flower bed( bed, flower, curb, mixborder) requires careful preparation. Before the device prepare on paper a drawing showing all the plants and the distances between them. First, draw the contours of the selected geometric shape and mark the places of planting groups of flowers on it. If the site under the bed is processed for the first time, this requires special care. In the autumn, the planned site is dug up and well reparted manure, compost or sheet humus at a rate of 1-2 buckets per 1 m2.This improves the structure and moisture retention of the soil's ability. In the spring, the soil surface is slightly compacted and leveled by rakes, and the soil should not be ground too much. Then a complex mineral fertilizer is introduced at the rate of 20 g of sulfuric acid ammonium or 10 g of urea, 40 g of superphosphate and 15 g of potassium chloride per 1 m2.The edges of flower beds and curbs must be well delineated, which will facilitate the haircut of adjacent lawns. A shallow groove, dug along the perimeter of the flowerbed, will allow using curbs. The flower garden should rise 5-10 cm above the surface of the plot, so the fertile
soil is added to the prepared area. When it settles and is compacted, the flowerbeds are appropriately shaped according to the drawing, using a cord, a folding meter and wooden pegs for this.
In the spring they dig up the edges of the flower bed, raking the soil from the adjacent path or lawn and forming a shallow groove. This facilitates the lawn mowing and the use of herbicides.
It is common practice to plant two flowers twice to decorate flower beds, cottages and curbs during the year - in spring and summer. For summer flowering select one-and perennial plants, as well as biennials with a summer flowering period;for spring - bulbous and biennial plants with a spring flowering period.
Plants intended for spring flowering are planted in the soil in September-October before strong autumn frosts, so that young plants, such as biannual seedlings such as daisies, pansies, forget-me-nots, Turkish carnations, had a good time to settle down. They replace the plants of summer flowering, which by this time already wither. The color of the expected color scheme is attached to the hyacinths, tulips, daffodils and other bulbs planted between them.
Spring-flowering plants are always planted on the bed before the onion planting. This avoids damage to the bulbs when digging out the holes for planting, which can happen if the bulbs are planted first. In addition, this sequence eliminates the unevenness in the placement of flowers, when the plant being planted accidentally appears near the hidden soil of the bulb. Plants of seedlings are clearly visible on the surface of the flower bed, and the discontinuity of the landing can be immediately corrected.
Plants blooming in spring are planted before planting bulbs if they are grown together. Bulbs are placed in the spaces between planted plants, adhering to the original design.
Planting for summer flowering is carried out in late May - early June, when the spring plants have already faded and the threat of frosts has passed. The basis of such plantations are annual plants with low resistance to low temperatures. Before tempering and planting, they are grown in a greenhouse. In the summer planting schemes also include
tender perennial plants - fuchsia, geranium and dahlias.
For flower decoration of flowerbeds one-, two- and multi-annual ornamental plants are used. Select them so that flowering lasted from early spring to late autumn.
The distance between the plants and the depth of planting depends on the type of plants selected for this type of plantation. The main goal of planting is to create an even color effect during flowering, covering the entire flower bed. The implementation of this idea is determined by the quality of the selected plants.
Plants are planted on a planned site, leaving a distance between them so that during flowering they completely cover the surface of the flower bed.
Spring planting of plants, including onion plants, is planned especially carefully so that they blossom simultaneously. The timing and duration of flowering plants should be checked in advance. Annual plants with a summer flowering period can be grown on a flower bed by spring sowing in an open ground.
