Adenoma of the prostate: operation
Prostate adenoma is a common prostatic disease of men. With age, the number of cells increases, which leads to the formation of a benign tumor. This substance gradually increases in size and begins to press on the urethra. So one of the first symptoms of the disease appears: frequent urge to urinate.
The type of treatment depends on the patient's health and age, and on the degree of the disease. Unfortunately, tablets from prostate adenoma often only improve the patient's quality of life. In addition, for the consolidation of the effect of conservative treatment, a frequent repetition of the courses of drug therapy is necessary.
A radical treatment for a disease such as prostate adenoma is an operation to remove a tumor. It's about removing only that part of the tumor that squeezes the urethra.
Preparing for operation

The patient before the operation must undergo a number of procedures:
- to pass blood tests( total, for HIV, hepatitis and syphilis) and urine;
- to do electrocardiography and chest x-ray;
- sound examination of the urinary system, in which the residual amount of urine is determined;
- measure the rate of urination( uroflowmetry);
- to determine the level of prostate-specific blood antigen;
- undergo an examination with a therapist and anesthesiologist.
Types of operations for the removal of adenoma
Depending on the general health and volume of the prostate, complications of the disease and other factors, the doctor determines which operation is more suitable for the patient. Transurethral resection of the prostate( TUR).The doctor outside through the opening of the urethra introduces the resectoscope into the bladder. With this special instrument under the control of vision, removal of excess prostate tissue and cauterization of bleeding vessels is performed. The obtained pieces of tissue are analyzed by a physician-morphologist.
Then a catheter is inserted into the bladder, through which urine will flow into the urethra sac. With this high-tech intervention, there is no incision from the outside and the patient spends much less time in the hospital.
In some clinics laser TOUR is carried out. The essence of the operation is the same. Only the tumor is removed with the help of laser beams, so that the loss of blood is minimal, and recovery occurs much faster. Laser adenoma removal is performed under local anesthesia.
Transvesical adenomectomy is a cystic surgery, accompanied by a cut between the pubis and the navel. The front wall of the bladder is also cut. After this, the doctor manually removes the expanded tissue, installs a catheter through the urethra into the bladder( in some cases, an additional drainage tube is placed).After such an operation, the patient has to stay longer in the hospital.
Postoperative period
It happens that after the operation a regular irrigation system of the urinary bladder with furacilin or other special solution is installed to the patient. The fluid enters the bladder along one of the catheter canals and exits into the urine receiver through another channel along with blood clots.
Within a week after the operation, the patient is recommended to adhere to a diet: give up salt, roast, smoked, drink at least two to three liters of liquid per day. You can always check your diet with your doctor.
From 10 days to several weeks( depending on the nature of the disease) antibiotic therapy is performed. Urine after removal of the catheter can be either light, or with an admixture of blood. If there is an admixture of blood, it is recommended to increase the amount of fluid consumed and to avoid heavy physical exertion.
At home for two months it is recommended to refrain from lifting weights, playing sports, drinking alcohol. After the operation, the patient needs to walk a lot and be outdoors. Resume sexual life can be in a month and a half.
