Until now, there is no unambiguous opinion about what caused the Chernobyl disaster. Some argue that the reason is in defective equipment and gross errors in the construction of nuclear power plants. Others see the cause of the explosion in the malfunction of the circulating water system, which provided cooling of the reactor. Still others are convinced that the whole fault was the experiments conducted at that station on that sinister night on the permissible load, during which a gross violation of the rules of operation occurred. The fourth ones are sure that if there was a protective concrete cap over the reactor, the construction of which was neglected, there would not be such a spread of radiation that occurred as a result of the explosion.
Most likely, this terrible event was due to a combination of these factors - because each of them had a place to be. Human irresponsibility, "at random" action in matters relating to life and death, and deliberate concealment of information about what happened on the part of the Soviet authorities led to consequences, the results of which will be echoed for a long time by more than one generation of people around the world.
The Chernobyl disaster. Chronicle of events
The explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant happened on a deep night on April 26, 1986.A team of firefighters was called at the scene. Courageous and courageous people, they were shocked by what they saw and on the scales of the radiation counters immediately guessed what had happened. However, there was no time to think - and a team of 30 people rushed to fight the disaster. Of the protective clothing they were wearing ordinary helmets and boots - of course, they could not in any way save the firefighters from huge doses of radiation. These people have long been dead, all of them at different times died a painful death from the cancer that hit them. .
By the morning the flame was extinguished. However, parts of uranium and graphite were emitted throughout the territory of the nuclear power plant. The most terrible thing is that Soviet people did not immediately learn about the catastrophe that occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. This made it possible to remain calm and prevent panic - this is exactly what the authorities sought, ignoring the price at which their ignorance will turn for people. The people who did not know anything else for two whole days after the explosion quietly rested on the territory that became deadly, went to the nature, to the river, on a warm spring day, children were on the street for a long time. And all absorbed huge doses of radiation.
And on April 28, a full evacuation was announced.1100 buses carried a column of the population of Chernobyl, Pripyat and other nearby settlements. People abandoned their homes and everything that was in them - with them they were allowed to take only identity cards and food for a couple of days.
A zone with a radius of 30 km was recognized as a zone of alienation, not suitable for human life. Water, livestock and vegetation in this area were found to be unsuitable for use and endangering health.
The temperature in the reactor in the early days reached 5000 degrees - it could not be approached. Over the nuclear power plant hung a radioactive cloud, which three times rounded the Earth. To nail it to the ground, the reactor was bombed from the helicopters with sand and watered, but the effect of these actions was miserable. In the air was 77 kg of radiation - as if one hundred atomic bombs were simultaneously dropped on Chernobyl.
A huge ditch was excavated near the Chernobyl NPP.It was filled with the remnants of the reactor, pieces of concrete walls, clothing workers liquidators of the disaster. Within one and a half months the reactor was completely sealed with concrete( the so-called sarcophagus) in order to avoid radiation leakage.
In 2000, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was closed. Until now, work is under way on the Shelter project. However, the required money for it from Ukraine, for which Chernobyl has become a sad "legacy" from the USSR, no.
The tragedy of the century that they wanted to hide
Who knows how long the Soviet government would have concealed the "incident" that occurred, had it not been for the weather. Strong winds and rains, so inopportunely passed through Europe, carried radiation around the world. Most of the "got" to Ukraine, Belarus and the south-western regions of Russia, as well as Finland, Sweden, Germany, Great Britain.
For the first time unprecedented figures on the counters of radiation level were seen by employees of the nuclear power plant in Forsmark( Sweden).Unlike the Soviet government, they hastened to immediately evacuate all people living in the adjoining territory before they established that the problem was not in their reactor, but the alleged source of the outgoing threat was the USSR.
And exactly two days after the Forsmark scientists announced a radioactive alarm, US President Ronald Reagan held in his hands the pictures of the site of the Chernobyl disaster made by an artificial CIA satellite. What was depicted on them, would make even the person with a very stable psyche horrified.
While periodicals around the world blew about the dangers posed by the Chernobyl disaster, the Soviet press got rid of the humble statement that there was an "accident" at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
The Chernobyl disaster and its consequences
The consequences of the Chernobyl disaster made us aware of ourselves in the first months after the explosion. People living in the territories adjacent to the site of the tragedy died of hemorrhages and apoplexy attacks.
Liquidators of the consequences of the accident suffered: from the total number of liquidators in 600 000 about 100 000 people are no longer alive - they died of malignant tumors and destruction of the hematopoiesis system. The existence of other liquidators can not be called cloudless - they suffer from numerous diseases, including oncological disorders of the nervous and endocrine system. These same health problems have many evacuated, affected populations of the surrounding areas.
The consequences of the Chernobyl disaster for children are terrible. Delay in development, thyroid cancer, mental disorders and a decrease in the body's resistance to all types of diseases - that's what awaited children exposed to radiation.
However, the most terrible thing is that the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster affected not only people living at that time. Problems with pregnancy, frequent miscarriages, stillbirths, the frequent birth of children with genetic disorders( Down's syndrome, etc.), weakened immunity, affecting the number of children with leukemia, an increase in the number of cancer patients are all echoes of the catastrophe at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the end of which will comenot soon. If it comes. ..
Not only people suffered from the Chernobyl disaster - all living things on Earth felt the deadly power of radiation. As a result of the Chernobyl disaster mutants appeared-the descendants of people and animals born with various deformations. A foal with five legs, a calf with two heads, fish and birds of unnaturally huge size, giant mushrooms, newborns with deformities of the head and limbs - photos of the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster are horrific evidence of human negligence.
The lesson presented to mankind by the Chernobyl disaster was not appreciated by people. Still carelessly we treat our own lives, we still strive to squeeze out the riches bestowed to us by nature, everything we need "here and now" as much as possible. Who knows, maybe the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was the beginning of the end of the world, to which humanity is walking slowly but surely. ..
