Treatment of glaucoma with leeches: the method of hirudotherapy
Hirudotherapy in Latin means "treatment with leeches."This method of treating a variety of diseases has been known since antiquity and is now widely used in modern medicine.
Medical leeches are grown on special biological farms. They are sterile, so the introduction of infection into the patient's body in this case is excluded. Each is used only once.
It is interesting that these creatures are able to recognize the disease and they work in this case really only with a diseased organ or affected area of the patient's body. Important is the fact that hirudotherapy serves as a universal treatment for many diseases, while not having negative consequences as a result of its application.
Glaucoma treatment is widely used in ophthalmic practice, proving the success of this method with its effectiveness. When leeches are used in the treatment of this disease, lymph flow increases almost 10 times! Thanks to this, additional drainage systems are created, the outflow of intraocular fluid improves, and the process of cleansing tissues from decay products is accelerated. There is an antihypertensive effect, the level of IOP( intraocular pressure) decreases.
Technique for setting leeches
The procedure is as follows.3-5 pcs. Put on the temporal region( the side of the diseased eye).Previously, the temple's skin is washed with warm boiled water. Alcohol can not be used! Then, the skin is wiped with a solution of sugar syrup or 40% glucose.
Set as follows:
Place the leeches in a glass, overturn it above the necessary place( temporal or behind-eye area) on the side of the diseased organ of vision. Next, wait until they join and begin to increase. A glass is cleaned. Later, they will suck blood, increase in size and then fall off themselves. At the same time there are small wounds on the skin that bleed for a while.
If all leeches have disappeared, and one has remained, then in this case it is sprinkled with salt and it falls off itself. It is impossible to tear them off. Then a cotton-gauze bandage is applied. Leeches sprinkle a little salt, they bleed, and they can be placed again in clean water. The water must be well-kept, free of chlorine, etc. Then they can be applied again.
Leeches with glaucoma
It is also recommended to put leeches for glaucoma on the temporal region - 1 piece, one per lymph nodes in front of the ear and behind the ear, to the cervical spine( one on the right and left of the spinal column, around 1-2cervical vertebra). In total, it turns out, five leeches for one session. A total of up to seven sessions with an interval of 7-10 days may be required.
Foot baths are also used with medical leeches in the temple area on the side of the diseased eye. Quantity - from three to five pieces.
Treatment of glaucoma with these creatures has a fairly persistent effect. Saliva contains a whole set of biologically active substances, which, in addition to their medicinal properties, also have the property of improving the general condition of the patient. One course of hirudotherapy usually takes 7-10 sessions.
Initiation of treatment, as a rule, consists in incomplete exposure of medical leeches. Half an hour after the bite, it is removed with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol or saline solution. You can simply sprinkle it with salt, after which it disappears on its own. The second or third session already consists in a full exposure, when the leeches are saturated with blood completely, after which they fall off themselves. Between sessions should take 5-6 days. The course of hirudotherapy is repeated a month later.
Healing saliva of leeches
Saliva has curative effect, contains medicinal components that purify blood from harmful substances and decay products.
The special bacteria that make up saliva have an antibacterial effect, which allows the saliva to remain sterile. She, biting the skin, secretes saliva into the blood, containing more than 30 nutrients. This contributes to the venous outflow, as well as the normalization of all body functions.
The special substance hirudin, which is part of the saliva, prevents the blood clotting, thus, improves blood circulation and accelerates the outflow of lymph. In this case, there is also an improvement in cell growth, tissue renewal. Therefore hirudotherapy is not recommended for oncological diseases. Sometimes there is an allergy to hirudin, but it happens rarely.
It's amazing that a leech bites the skin in reflexogenic points, like with acupuncture, accurately identifying the right places. The wound after their application bleeds for about a day, which is considered the norm. In this case, mainly the secretion of lymph occurs, which stimulates the body's immunity, removes swelling.
