Selection of variety

The newest varieties with large berries have appeared, in particular, the Brighton variety. One must know one more feature of the repair classes. They were withdrawn in countries with a much warmer climate than in our non-black earth and, especially, in the North-West. Such varieties as Mont Everest, at home in France, do not give two, but three crops, in Ukraine it is also possible. In Germany, the variety is Mahern, in the USA - Red-Rich. Recently, the seeds of these and other foreign varieties have been on sale in our country. There are also our varieties: Crimean remontant and especially widely advertised variety Moscow Delicacy( under the illiterate name Strawberry Moscow Delicacy).There is an interesting variety of White Lotoc with white berries. Many repair varieties bloom and bear fruit all season on the rooted outlets of the current summer. Packets with seeds are often accompanied by a colorful picture on which is placed a photograph of the wall, literally overgrown with flowering and fruiting strawberries. In the annotation to the gardeners they promise fabulous crops - up to 2 kg from the bush. This is completely untrue, the "bait" for this bait is disappointed.

Do I need to have a patch of strawberries on the site? Why not? For example, it is quite possible to have, even in the Northwest, 3-4 large shrubs of Columbia or Cardinal. Truth will have to take some measures. In order to accelerate the ripening of the first harvest, in April, it is necessary to cover a bed with repairing strawberries with a double layer of lutrasil stretched over the arc. Harvest you get two weeks earlier than with the main plantation of garden strawberries. In early August, when the night temperatures fall to 6-8 degrees and the ripening of the berries slows, it is necessary to put a shelter over the remontant strawberries. Then you will manage with minimal losses of harvest.

Repair varieties can be grown on trellis or in ampel form, but for our climate this is too difficult. You can take the north wall for such planting in a glassed-in greenhouse or in a one with which a film is not removed for the winter. The box with the planted strawberries will have to be removed in winter and dug into the soil in the greenhouse, if you grow strawberries in ampel form. If you grow it in trellis form, then plants should be removed for the winter from the trellis and spread on the soil until spring. And in either case, these plantings should be covered with lapnik. After all, they will have to winter without snow cover, because they winter in the greenhouse.
