Varieties and kinds of lilies
A relatively small number of varieties of lilies have been spread in culture, so many species that grow wild in nature are used.
Of the tested varieties for breeding in the Central Black Earth zone, lily Slender, Ruby, Ruby, Inchantment, Destiny, Joan Evan, Michurin's Memory, Daughter of Fialkova, Youth are recommended.
These lilies are quite winter-hardy and stable in the middle zone.
Lilia Fialkovaya, deduced by IV Michurin, deserves attention mainly for breeding work. Its drawbacks are the difficulty of reproduction and weak resistance against fungal diseases. It works well on light sandy or sandy loamy soils.
The most interesting among the lovers are the most beautiful among the lilies species: speciozum( special) and auratum( golden) - comes from Japan and the adjacent to it even more southern islands. These species, however, are low-resistant in our conditions and require selection work with them. Re-wintering in the middle zone is possible only if there is good shelter. The same is true for the lilies of the Philippine and long-flowered lilies, which are even less winter-hardy in our conditions.
As a cut culture, the lily is interesting in that many of its species and varieties are able to fill little flower periods, especially in early summer.
Lilies are very resistant to high temperatures and low relative humidity.
However, most of them prefer a light shadow. Poorly tolerate the direct sunlight of Shovits lily, one-granular, Vial, chalmoid, Sargent, Henry, Hanson, Caucasian. Good grow in the open area of lily regalia( Tibetan), Daurian, umbrella, Tunberga, Mardalla, Formoza and some others.
Of the lilies used for cutting, many have a very strong flavor that not everyone likes. This applies primarily to the lily regalia( Tibetan) and its hybrids. A large bouquet of such lilies in a small room can cause a headache and even a slight general poisoning. Therefore, as a rule, in the room do not hold more than one or two flowers, and at night they are recommended to take out of the room in which they sleep.
