Useful and medicinal properties of rose damask and rose white
These 2 types of roses are cultivated plants that are grown to produce rose oil, contained mainly in the petals of flowers. Both species are low shrubs, similar in appearance to the Crimean rose, with the significant difference that the number of petals is not 5, but much more - about 30, in exchange, the number of stamens is much less than in other species. Both species bloom in May-June.
Fresh flowers contain about 0.02% oil( to get 1 kg of oil you need almost 4000 roses).
For medicinal purposes, flowers are used. The rose oil obtained during the distillation with water vapor contains about 3-9% of phenylethyl alcohol, and the oil obtained by extraction is 55%.Distilled oil also contains 40-76% geraniol, 5-10% nerol, 15-37% citronellone, etc. A pleasant fragrant oil smell is mainly due to geraniol, nerol and citronellone, as well as phenylethyl alcohol.
Rose oil has an anti-inflammatory and antiphlogistic effect with abscess in the lung and even with gangrene of the lungs. It causes anemia of the mucous membrane of the respiratory organs and acts spasmolytic on the bronchial musculature. It is prescribed for bronchial asthma. It is used both in the form of injections, and inside.
White rose flowers contain resinous and mucous substances and are a good laxative and anthelmintic remedy, especially for young children.
Red rose flowers contain 15-20% of catechinic tannin substances, quercetrin( flavone glycoside) and cyanine( anthocyanin glycoside dye).Has a good astringent and krepitelnoe action for diarrhea, catarrhal gastrointestinal diseases and anti-inflammatory effect in angina and inflammation of the gums( used in the form of rinses).
Application of
Inside is taken in the form of infusion: 5-10 g of crushed petals( 2-3 tablespoons) are poured with 2 cups of boiling water( adult daily dose, for children - for 2 days);the same infusion is used to rinse the throat and lubricate the gums.
Rose water obtained during the distillation of rose oil contains a significant amount of phenylethyl alcohol and has an antiseptic effect on eye inflammation. Artificial rose water, which is produced by dissolving rose oil in distilled water, has only the smell of natural rose water, but does not possess its composition and properties.
