Large-fruited garden strawberries have come from accidental crossing of two types of strawberries. About three hundred years ago two species of wild strawberry were brought to Europe. Chilean, native to South America, was planted in the Versailles Garden in France next to Virginia strawberries from North America. Bees have dusted plants. A large miracle-berry has unexpectedly grown out of these seeds. The most remarkable is that the large fruit of the berries was fixed at the genetic level and began to be inherited. This random hybrid became the ancestor of all further varieties of large-fruited garden strawberries. In Russia the plant got about a hundred years ago from England and was originally named "Victoria" by the name of the imported variety. But then the name "strawberry" spread, although it is a completely different kind of plant.

Strawberries grow in the forest in the same way as wild strawberries, but differs from the latter in that they have more light-colored leaves with a clear pattern of veins. The flower-stem is strong and high, so that the berries rise above the bush and do not lie on the soil when ripe. Berries are small, although larger than in wild strawberries. They are never completely colored, but they have a strong flavor. The most important difference between strawberries and strawberries is that strawberries are a monoecious plant, and strawberries are dioecious, that is, they have female plants that give berries, and male plants that flower, but do not give berries. This sometimes puts gardeners at a dead end.

Why does abundant flowering end without berries, or on some bushes the harvest of a trifle ripens? The answer is simple. Probably, you grow strawberries, not garden strawberries, and some plants, namely, male, do not bear fruit. But the reason can be another. The fact is that among the plants of garden strawberries there may be varieties of weeds. It's Blizzard, who does not give berries at all;Dubnjak, which does not even have flower stalks;Bamboo, which gives a small harvest of small, round, pinkish berries, and Pendant with dark red, small, elongated berries. To get rid of them, you should spend on all the beds two sorts of cleaning. One should be done in the spring, when among blossoming bushes of strawberries one can clearly see not the blossoming bushes of Zhmurka and Dubnyak, but the second during the harvest of the first harvest of large berries. At this time, the small berries of Bakhmutki and Pendants are very noticeable. The bushes should be immediately removed and planted in their place varietal plants.
