    Ovulation is the process of release of the ovum from the ovary. Estesstvenno that ovulation occurs only in women and it does not happen in men.

    The menstrual cycle of a woman can theoretically be divided into two halves. In the first half of the cycle in 1 of the ovaries( less often in both), the follicle grows( the sac for the egg) and the egg in it is ripened. Approximately in the middle of the cycle, the follicle breaks and the egg is released - this is ovulation. Normally, this egg is ready for fertilization. She begins to move through the uterine tubes to the uterus - the second half of the menstrual cycle begins. If fertilization has not occurred and the egg has not attached to the walls of the uterus( with the normal course of pregnancy), menstruation begins. The first day of menstruation is considered the first day of the next cycle.

    A few days before and a few days after ovulation, when fertilization is most likely called a fertile period.

    • pains in the lower abdomen on the side where ovulation occurred. Severe pain in ovulation, as a rule, occurs with a pronounced adhesion process or PCOS;

    How to determine ovulation day

    At home, the presence or absenceovulation and the period of ovulation can be determined by building and analyzing the basal temperature chart. But this method does not provide reliable information about ovulation and is only approximate, indicative. In addition, the influence of measurement errors and external factors on the basal temperature is great, and one can draw any conclusions about ovulation only if all the rules for measuring basal temperature are strictly followed.

    Ovulation test

    Ovulation tests are available to determine ovulation at home. Tests for ovulation are similar to pregnancy tests, but are conducted around the middle of the cycle. Tests sufficiently reliably show ovulation.

    The principle on which all ovulation tests are based is similar to laboratory tests for ovulation.

    Determination of ovulation by ultrasound

    The most reliable method for determining ovulation is ultrasound diagnosis, in which the growth of the follicle and the thickness of its envelope are evaluated( ready or not to break and release the egg) or the presence of a yellow body after ovulation.
