Decoupage of doors with their own napkins and wallpaper

An important detail of the modern interior of the apartment - interior doors. In order to revitalize the interior you can use the technique of decoupage. Decoupage of doors with their own hands is not only possible for professionals, but also for beginners.

Description of the work

Decoupage technique can be performed using the following elements:

• Decoupage of doors with napkins;
• Decoupage of doors with various clippings from newspapers, magazines, etc.
• Decoupage of doors with wallpaper.

Decoupage technology consists of several consecutive stages. Let's list them:

• Surface treatment of the door. The surface of the interior door must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt. Rinse the surface with a soap solution. After washing, wait until the surface dries completely.

• With the help of paper tape, we designate the place where the work will be done. On the rest of the door we paste paper tape.
• Primer. For priming the place of decoupage we choose a beige primer. We carefully primed the door. Let the primer dry( usually it takes about three to four hours).
• Surface treatment with wax or paraffin. The primed surface is gently rubbed with beeswax or paraffin.

• Staining. In the process of painting, acrylic paints( you can use aerosol acrylic paints) of two colors are used: white and background( we select the background color depending on the conceived composition of decoupage).White acrylic paint cover the surface of the door and let it dry completely. Then carefully apply the acrylic paint of the primary color. Also let the paint dry.(Figure 2).

• Decoupage of interior doors with their own hands can be performed both with the use of special decoupage napkins, and using other materials( wallpapers, clippings, photos, etc.).with the help of glue, you need to paste the decoupage motif on the door( Figure 3).

For this, a thin paint brush is used. Bubbles of air with the help of a sponge are expelled from under the surface of the decoupage motif in the direction from the center to the edges. Use a sponge for this - do not rub the image with your hands. Using an acrylic contour, process the uneven edges of the decoupage image( Figure 4).

• Grinding. The door in the technique of decoupage looks particularly impressive, if the surface of the decoupage is smooth. Use fine sanding paper to smooth the surface. With the help of grinding, you can also create a retro-style door, giving the surface a roughness( Figure 5).

• Varnishing and drying. In order to decoupage the door for a long time pleased you with its appearance it is necessary to strengthen it - to rinse. And, you need to do this more than once. At least a layer of acrylic lacquer should be three. After each application of the varnish, it is necessary to dry the door thoroughly with hot air( for example, using a hair dryer).Lacquering of the door can also be done with matt lacquer depending on the desired effect( Figure 6).

Note that the decoupage technique can be applied not only to solid wooden doors, but also to glass interior doors, to the doors with stained-glass windows. Decoupage of glass on the door has its advantages over the use of stained glass:

• First, it is opaque. This allows you to decouple the glass doors of the bathroom or toilet.
• Secondly, it is very cheap. In contrast to expensive stained glass windows, decoupage of the door glass is much cheaper.
