Late births
Extra days or weeks after the due date of delivery may require additional time to rest before delivery. Only 5% of women give birth at the appointed time, most give birth to a child later.
The main reason that the appointed date of birth is rarely accurate is to estimate the time of delivery, based on 40 weeks, counted from the start of the last menstrual period. It is expected that the child will be born within plus or minus two weeks from the appointed date, therefore officially the pregnancy is considered belated after 42 weeks.
The child is also born late, if this is the mother's first pregnancy. The first pregnancy is delayed by an average of eight days after the appointed time. The second child is delayed by an average of three days. The poor location of the child's head can also delay its exit.
Many women prefer to avoid the care of friends and relatives, telling them about the approximate birth time of the child, for example "in the middle of June".This approach also helps to prepare for the delay in childbirth with respect to the appointed date. If the gestation period reaches 42 weeks, the observing doctor will discuss with you the issue of stimulation of childbirth.
OBSERVATION OF THE CARRIED CHILD
In a small number of pregnancies, the surviving placenta has the ability to nourish a child. Since this can cause problems for the child, your midwife or doctor may begin special preparations after the 40th week to ensure the normal birth of the child.
♦ "Kicking" table Expect to have to count at least ten movements for 12 hours daily. If you do not, or if the child seems less active than usual, call the midwife or go to the hospital immediately.
♦ Fetal heart rate control This is usually done by a midwife in a clinic or hospital delivery room.
♦ Biophysical characteristic It is determined by ultrasound using the measurement of limb movements and lung function, as well as the amount of amniotic fluid.
Exercises for child positioning can help avoid prolonged pregnancy.
Sexual relationships can help prepare the cervix for wrestling. Sperm is rich in prostaglandin dynamia - hormones that soften the cervix. Orgasm also stimulates uterine contractions. Stimulation of the nipples promotes the release of the hormone oxytocin, which stimulates uterine contractions. Sometimes stimulation of the nipples leads to strong, prolonged contractions of the uterus, which is the reason for the decrease in blood flow to the baby. This method should be carried out under the supervision of an experienced professional.
Psychological readiness is one of the rarely discussed components of labor. Women who are not psychologically prepared for delivery can
block them. If you have any questions about the influence of the child on your future life, discuss them with your spouse or doctor.
Some herbs and homeopathic remedies can stimulate uterine activity. There are no scientific studies that would determine the safety and efficacy of these drugs, so do not use them without the advice of a specialist.
Removal of amniotic membranes is carried out by inserting a finger into the glove into the cervix and cleaning them from the edges. In some studies this procedure is called as preventing late births. But it should only take place under the supervision of a doctor.
