Werner's syndrome( adult progeria)
This syndrome is quite rare. Werner's syndrome is inherited in the autosomal recessive type. A characteristic sign of the disease, as well as the previous one, is premature aging, the appearance of foci of compaction on the skin of the forearms and shins, bilateral cataracts, rather early development of atherosclerosis. People suffering from this syndrome differ from others by an increased incidence of diabetes and malignant tumors( cancer).The mechanism of development of Werner's syndrome is still unknown.
Disease, as a rule, develops at the age of 20-30 years. It is manifested by slowing down the growth rates, thinning of the skin, subcutaneous fat and muscles of the face, limbs, feet and hands are disproportionately small in size, the foci of compaction appear on the skin. Patients are characterized by appearance: facial features are pointed, the nose is "birdy", hair is thinning, gray, the voice is high, the nails are thin, easily broken, it can often be noted excessive cornification of the skin on the soles and other areas with increased traumatization, ulcers of the lower legs, underdevelopment of the genitalorgans, the deposition of calcium salts in the subcutaneous fatty tissue, resulting in the formation of peculiar seals. At a fairly early age, cataracts develop. There may be signs of immunodeficiency, which primarily include an increased susceptibility to a variety of infections, primarily SARS.As mentioned above, such people are more likely to develop diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis and malignant tumors, which is the cause of the fatal outcome that occurs in most people before reaching the age of 40 years.
Treatment of is aimed only at getting rid of the symptoms of the disease, which is due to the lack of opportunity to cure the very reason that led to the development of adult progeria. First of all, the treatment is aimed at preventing the development of atherosclerosis and its complications, elimination of diabetes mellitus, ulcers of the shin. For this purpose, the laser irradiation method can be used. And also drugs with antibacterial action, solcoseryl, substances that improve tissue trophism can be used.
