If romantic marriages are most often created on the basis of abstract dreams and tragic torments, then marriages are much closer to real life. Instead of blind adoration, partner-friends, who have fallen in love with each other's human qualities, go on living side by side. On such relations, the French writer and philosopher Albert Camus( 1913-1960) spoke fluently.

Do not go ahead of me -

    I can not go after.

Do not walk behind me -

I can not manage to head.

    Go near me

And be me just a friend.

The word "comrade", "companion"( companion) once meant a person who eats bread along with another. Now the word "comrade" is used in a broader sense. It focuses on the similar ideals of people, on their common interests or tasks in life. A necessary condition is the same tastes, for example, attitudes toward music and art, general interests in one of sports, general love for gardening, etc.

Marriage based on a community of interests and mutual attraction can be seen more as a community that does not exclude activelove relationships. Two people may not spend all the time together, but act in full harmony. It is not necessary to engage in the same business. They find pleasure in the common interest and respect the independent interests of everyone. Such a relationship of spouses, even if they began without a special passion, very often turn into marriages, which store great love and devotion to each other all their lives.

A marriage partnership is often found between spouses for whom romantic relationships alone are not of value, in which intimate relationships do not bring joy and pleasure, and sexual desires are extinguished as a result of illness or for any other reasons.

Over time, with age, the commonwealth, the partnership of spouses becomes for them the most important element of marriage. For the elderly, this is especially important when there is a person next to whom you can share all the joys and sorrows of life, which you can take care of, thanks to which a person is deprived of loneliness. Consequently, a marriage based on companionship is created in the community of interests of both partners.

A commonwealth marriage occurs not only among the elderly. Many young couples first test each other for a long time, sometimes even live together for a while, and then, after discovering that their relationship gives the ground for a family, they decide to marry. These spouses are comrades in the full sense of the word. They will support each other in any trouble. For many of these people, companionship is more important than romantic feelings. They love each other's society for other reasons. When they marry, they have a solid foundation of mutual feelings based on a subtle understanding of each other, which guarantee a good family relationship in the future.

Marriage-companionship emancipates spouses, because friendship is not regulated by society or laws, it exists in marriage for only two people. Usually companionship is very strong. However, emancipation and freedom sometimes give one of the spouses the possibility of entertainment on the side, and this need can be met both in the sexual, and in the social and cultural spheres. Sometimes these "distractions" from marriage take the form of genuine passion in the form of enthusiasm, for example, politics, sports, gardening or official duties. Sometimes they mean extramarital affairs. The so-called "open marriages" often coexist with friendly marriages, since it was in these collateral unions that one of the partners of legal marriage began to develop a tendency toward freedom at a lower level.
