Lianas

One of the life forms in the world of plants is lianas. They are widely distributed in all regions of the globe and are represented in almost half of the families of higher plants.

A characteristic feature of lianas are flexible stems, which practically do not have their own growth direction, and plants are forced to look for support. Depending on the method of attachment to the support, the lianas are divided into 4 groups: curly, radicosa, rooting and resting.

The most common are curly - the flexible stem wraps the support, the time of one turn varies from 2 to 48 hours. Among the interior plants, this group includes allamanda, clerodendrum, Roicisus, Stephanotis, Tunbergia.

Usikonosnye vines are attached to the support using antennas. By origin, the antennae can be modified shoots, for example in passionflower and cissus, as a continuation of the leaf vein, like gloriosa, with simple leaves of a complex leaf - in the bignonia. One of the species of bagnony is called "cat's claw", since on the leaves there are hook-shaped outgrowths, with which the liana, like "cats", clings to the support. The ends of the antennae of some lianas are branched, in others they are flattened and form peculiar "pads" sticking to the support.

Root creepers are attached to the support with the aid of additional root roots( monsters, filodendron, ivy).

To the leaning lianas belong the palm rattan, including the palm Spanish blue reed, bougainvillea.

As supports for vines are used metal or plastic arches, trellises, gratings. On these supports look great ampelop-sis, guinura, diplapleniya, plumbago, ivy, stephanotis, hoya, philodendron, ceropegia. It should be remembered that in stephanotis and diplaposition, more flowers are formed on hanging shoots.

In modern houses and apartments, it often becomes necessary to decorate stairs, create vertical separation "green" walls. This can be done using species such as asparagus jasmine, passionflower, rhodochitis, roicisus, solandra, streptosolen.

The original method of vertical gardening is "moss" columns, on which it is easy to retain rooting lianas with subordinate roots: syngonium, philodendrons, ficuses, epipremnum.

Some lianas form "green ceilings", clinging to a grid or a light grill fixed to the ceiling.
