One of the latest researches of scientists has shown that the harm caused to children from pesticides is more dangerous in comparison with the inhalation of cigarette smoke. A study of the effect of pesticides on the children's organism was carried out by specialists from the California Center.

The study involved about 300 children between the ages of one and a half to six years. All of them lived in the region( the Salinas Valley), where there are many agro-industrial complexes. Regular processing of fields using various pesticides and fertilizers is carried out on them.

As a result of the study of the effect of pesticides on the children's body, the researchers concluded that they are the main cause of health problems among this age group. Even in comparison with tobacco smoke, the harmful effect of pesticides was stronger.

Simultaneously with children living in close proximity to fields treated with various pesticides, a control group of children who did not live in such areas participated in the study. They had much less health problems compared to those children who regularly had to inhale harmful substances during the processing of fields.

The main conclusion made by scientists is that pesticides have a pronounced toxic effect on the children's body.

Pesticides have a variety of uses. Most often they are used for processing fields in agriculture. Also these substances can be used for better preservation of food stocks and other products of natural origin( for example, wood).

With the help of pesticides, many countries are fighting the pests of forest plantations. These substances are also used to neutralize the vectors of diseases of domestic animals, as well as humans. For example, in such a way in individual states they are fighting with malarial mosquitoes.

Among pesticides there is a separate group of the most dangerous substances. Specialists call them persistent organic pollutants. A group of these pesticides has a number of common properties. In particular, they are characterized by resistance to the process of destruction under natural conditions, high toxicity, poor solubility in water.

Also, persistent organic contaminants in adipose tissue exhibit bioaccumulative properties, they are able to accumulate when ingested, and also show a pronounced mobility in the food chain.

There are a number of banned pesticides. Among those included in this list are mercury-containing substances, organochlorine compounds and others. In particular, representatives of banned groups are dieldrin, chlordane, aldrin, mirex, DDT, endrin, toxaphene, heptachlor.
