It often seems to us that the things around us are complex and executed with the help of special tricky devices, require special knowledge and technology. Sometimes it is really so, but more often it turns out that to get extremely beautiful and elegant things you only need to show perseverance, diligence and accuracy.
This fully applies to the manufacture of festive floral decorations, such as a floral wedding arch.
What is the wedding arch
This is a popular decorative element that has come to us from Western traditions. Such decor is very fashionable and in demand in America, and in Israel, no wedding does not do without the traditional hupa - a kind of tent in which the wedding takes place.
Wedding arches are installed where the wedding takes place: in the courtyard of your own house, on the beach, in a park or in a blooming garden, as well as in a church and a room.
Types of wedding arches
Wedding arches are divided into two large categories.
- Mounted on four posts.
- With two legs.
The first rather resemble the skeletons of pavilions, only without walls and a solid roof. They are replaced by a thin fabric and bright decorative elements. The second type of arch can have different shapes:
- Quadrilateral.
- Horseshoe shaped.
- Lancet.
- In the form of a heart.
The traditional arch has the shape of a horseshoe, and its main decoration is flowers, fabrics, bows, balloons and much more. The design of the arch depends on the wishes of customers and can include both the usual details and an absolutely unusual look.

To create an arch you will need:
- Material for a solid foundation( finished arches or metal-plastic pipes of sufficient length, not less than 3.5 meters and a diameter of 2 cm).The length of the length of the pipe depends on the shape and width of the planned arch. Note that the product must be securely fastened, so add lengths to the fixing points in the ground. Many other materials can be used to make arches, but working with them requires special training and is difficult for a beginner.
- Large plastic flower pots or other containers( 2 pcs.) For making supports.
- Cement mortar for pouring supports.
- Level and plumb.
- Pliers.
- End cutters and side cutters.
- Adhesive gun.
- Scissors.
- Stapler.
- Needles, threads.
- Decorative fabrics.
- Flowers and greens( live, dry, artificial, paper).
- Balloons.
- Fine decor( crystals, sequins, ribbons, and so on).
Making the wedding arch
To make the wedding arch with your hands not only elegant and beautiful, but also not crumbling at the most inopportune moment, the main attention should be paid to the strength of the structure. First of all, it must be securely fixed in the ground strictly vertically, as the slightest inclination and a gentle breeze will distort your creation.
Therefore, beginners should work with light artificial flowers.
- The main attention is drawn to the arch framework. It must withstand the weight of the decor, so the base must be massive and heavy. To this end, the "method of the Italian mafia" is used - in the flower pots or plastic containers, the ends of the already curved arch are inserted so that they come out of the hole at the bottom. The structure is carefully leveled with a plumb and level, and the cavities of pots or containers are filled with a liquid cement mortar. While it freezes, you need to constantly check the vertical structure. Work with the arch will be possible only after the cement dries completely. Subsequently, the potted "feet" will be hidden under the ground and decorated with a cloth.
- If it is necessary to give the volume of the arch, it is wrapped with light air materials such as sintepon. You can fasten the layers with a stapler or glue gun, all these attachments will be hidden by the decor.
- The finished frame is covered with a cloth. Most often it is lightweight air textiles - organza, chiffon, artificial silk. Usually it is white or painted in light pastel colors, but more often bright saturated colors are used, especially for themed weddings.
- If the arch is completely covered with flowers, then they can be fixed on it by two methods - to glue individual elements and groups of colors with hot glue or to sew firmly, but it is much easier and faster to wrap an arched workpiece with a garland of artificial flowers and greens. During operation, each turn must be attached to the base in several places, so that they do not move or slip.
- With partial decoration of flowers, the focus is on the fabric that will decorate the arch or tent. Floral details, balls, bows and ribbons are fixed on the fabric, most often in the junctions - this further masks the fasteners.
