Extend life with medication
The world's largest pharmaceutical giants are testing drugs that, according to scientists, will be able to extend a person's life in half. And such medications can appear on the market in five to six years.
The main component of the future miracle is resveratrol, more precisely its synthetic versions. This component is allocated by some plants, in particular grapes, and is inherently a protective reaction to external stimuli.
Result of exposure to restoratrol on the human body is the expression of a gene that is involved in the isolation of the SIRT1 protein. The mechanism of this effect has not yet been fully studied, but it has been established that the gene is activated when the calorie intake by a person decreases and his body is physically stressed. Scientists expect to affect the protein with synthetic resveratrol substitutes. There are a lot of such substitutes today, however, only three were chosen for the tests.
The drug is tested in patients with cancer, diabetes, heart disease. Clinical studies confirm the rejuvenating effect of the SIRT1 enzyme.
Current work in the future may contribute to the emergence of a number of drugs against cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease. So, according to Professor David Sinclair, Harvard University, these drugs will not only heal one ailment, but also prevent the emergence of a number of others.
It should be noted that earlier studies of resveratrol in mice were carried out. Those mice that were injected showed much more endurance than their counterparts without protein supplements. In addition, the life expectancy of the first was 15% longer than the corresponding duration of the latter.
As Professor Sinclair concludes, scientists are now trying to find out whether there is any benefit from synthetic resveratrol substitutes for healthy people. But the results already available give hope. The aging process no longer seems so irreversible and, probably, some of the living now will be able to celebrate their 150th birthday in the future.
