Ultrasonic eye examination - Causes, symptoms and treatment. MF.
Ultrasound eye examination( ultrasound of the eye) is a diagnostic method in ophthalmology using ultrasonic waves. This method is safe and very informative. With the help of this method, it is possible to identify various intraocular abnormalities that can not be detected clinically in opacities of optical media. Using Doppler ultrasound, it is possible to examine the blood flow in the vessels of the eye. The method of ultrasound diagnosis allows you to get a lot of images, and also allows you to explore the eyeball when it moves.
Indications:
1. Opacity of optical media.
2. Intraocular and intraorbital tumors.
3. Intraocular foreign body( its detection and localization).
4. Ophthalmic pathology.
5. Measurement of the parameters of the eyeball and orbit.
6. Injury to the eyes.
7. Intraocular hemorrhage.
8. Retinal detachment.
9. Glaucoma.
10. Pathology of the optic nerve.
11. Vascular pathology.
12. Condition after ocular operations.
13. Myopic disease.
14. Evaluation of ongoing treatment.
15. Congenital anomalies of eyeballs and orbits.
Contraindications.
1. Injuries of the eyelids and near-ooplasm region.
2. Open eye injuries.
3. Retrobulbaric bleeding.
Preparation for ultrasound examination of the eyes is not required.
The patient lies on the couch, closes his eyes. The doctor applies a special gel on the eyelids of the patient, which ensures contact of the sensor with the eyeball. Then, he touches the eyelids with a sensor of the ultrasound machine, pressing gently on the eyeball. The doctor during the examination will guide the position of the patient's eyeballs. This is done in order to display all the structures necessary for inspection on the monitor of the ultrasound machine.
Eye with ultrasound
With an ultrasound, the eyeball normally looks dark. In the front of his departments, two light vertical lines are visible - a capsule of the lens, the posterior surface of which is more convex. Before the lens, a dark space is visible, bounded in front by a convex vertical light line( cornea) - this is the anterior chamber of the eye. The optic nerve is seen as a dark band behind the eyeball. The retina is visible only when it detaches. The procedure during its carrying out does not cause discomfort.
The duration of the procedure can take an average of 5-10 minutes.
