    Do I have to install blinds on windows

    Someone thinks that blinds are just a necessity, and someone is on the contrary that they are not needed,so who is right in this situation!? In fact, there is no right or wrong in this situation, since the need to install blinds is an exclusively subjective opinion. This opinion is based on two factors: personal taste and necessity. Thus, one can draw a small conclusion that install blinds in two cases: if they like and / or if there is a need for them. Let's look at these two factors in more detail.

    Many people like blinds because of their beauty, because there are several types, which we'll talk about a little later. With the help of blinds you can visually decorate the window, especially using blinds of a certain color or with different patterns that will perfectly fit into the interior of the room, and also "thematically" transform the window. Many prefer blinds, because with their help you can replace the curtains and curtains, which many are already tired.

    As for the need for blinds, they help protect themselves from sunlight. If your windows face east, south or west, then during the summer, you will be very uncomfortable with direct sunlight.

    Firstly, because of direct sunlight, the air temperature in the room is significantly increased. Installing the blinds, the temperature in the room will be several degrees lower, since they will prevent direct sunlight. In addition, the blinds are necessary if you have an air conditioner installed, otherwise it will cool down the air in the room longer, and the temperature reached will be quickly lost. Therefore, in order not to force the air conditioner to work unnecessarily, it is necessary to install the blinds.

    Secondly, because of the direct sunlight in the room it becomes very bright and this is experiencing discomfort, especially adversely affects those whose windows face east when the early morning sun begins to shine in the eyes. Also, blinds are needed if you do not have a very beautiful landscape outside the window - the blinds will be beautifully hidden. Well and one more small positive moment in a louver is that they close a room from solar beams, therefore furniture, a paint, wall-paper and a window profile from the inside are less subject to fading.

    Types of blinds

    To date, there are 3 types of window blinds:

    • Horizontal;

    • Vertical;

    • Fabric.

    Blinds can be made of a wide variety of materials:

    • Aluminum;

    • Plastic;

    • Tree;

    • Fabric;

    • Bamboo;

    • Etc.

    The choice of the type and material of the blinds depends solely on your preferences. If you prefer classics and simplicity - then this is definitely horizontal aluminum blinds. If you do not plan to hang curtains or curtains or want to install blinds instead of them, then the best option is vertical blinds. If you want something beautiful and elegant - choose fabric blinds, they are very beautiful, besides they are very easy to wash, unlike the two previous versions of the blinds. For those who prefer something new or your room is made in any style, we recommend you to choose a blind from wood or bamboo.

    Installation of blinds with their own hands

    An integral part of the installation of the blinds is to measure them. If the measurement is incorrect, then it can not only not look aesthetically, but also negatively affect the window profile.

    Blinds measurement

    Horizontal and fabric blinds measurement

    There are 2 variants of blinds fastenings: on glazing beads and on the profile. Of course, if you want to fasten the blinds to the glazing beads, then you should be very careful in choosing the length of the screw, as a long screw can damage the glass of the insulating glass, which will eventually lead to depressurization of the entire insulating glass and adversely affect its thermal insulation properties. The installation of blinds on the profile of the plastic window is simpler, there is no danger, but it's one thing when the hole is made in a bead that can be easily replaced and the other one when the hole is in the profile. Personally, we recommend giving preference to fastening the blinds to the glazing beads, and if possible - to fasteners with double-sided tape, this method does not require making extra holes in the window.

    Another nuance that we would like to share with personal experience. Blinds are divided into 2 types: for the leaf and for the blind part of the window. Blinds for the blind part of the window are not fixed at the bottom in comparison with the curtains of the blinds, which are fixed from below, so as not to dangle during the movement of the leaf. If you have a corner or a "purse" apartment, then the blinds on the blind side of the window must be done with the bottom fixed, so that in the draft, the blinds do not beat against the profile, and in strong winds, when the window is open, the lower part does not move sideways and withoutclosed the sash - otherwise the blinds will bend, and lose their aesthetic appearance.

    The width of the horizontal blinds is measured: from the left edge of the left bead, to the right edge of the right bezel. In the same way, the height of the blinds is measured: from the upper part of the upper bead, to the bottom of the lower bead. It is important to consider one thing: how you will fasten the blinds. If you want to strengthen the blinds to the glazing beads, and at the same time to install the bottom retainers also on the glazing beads, the length of the blinds must strictly correspond to the distance from the bases of the glazing beads.

    We measured the blinds in the picture below. Blue color depicts glazing beads - plastic bars, which fix the double-glazed window to the profile. Red lines show the boundaries on which it is necessary to measure the windows, taking into account our recommendations.

    Measurement of vertical blinds

    In turn, measuring vertical blinds is a simpler process, since there are no special nuances here. The peculiarity of the measurement is how you want to fix the blinds. There are three types of fastening vertical blinds:

    • To the top of the window slope;

    • Above the window aperture( as a normal cornice);

    • To the ceiling.

    Each of these options has its advantages - consider them.

    If you want to limit the direct sunlight to the apartment, and at the same time give preference to vertical blinds, then it is best to attach them to the upper part of the window slope - this type of attachment has a more beautiful appearance. If you want to completely hide the window behind the blinds, or you have plastic slopes, then you can mount vertical blinds above the window opening. If you want to install blinds instead of curtains and stretch them along a large window opening or on the entire wall, then you need to fix the blinds to the ceiling.

    If the blinds are to be installed in the window opening, then their width should be equal to the width of the window opening, and the length should be strictly from the top slope to the window sill, even slightly shorter so that they do not cling to the windowsill. If you want the blinds to protrude beyond the perimeter of the window aperture, then the width of the blind should be done with the allowance of 15-20 cm, and the height can be made as with an allowance of 20-30 cm more than the height of the window opening, and do blinds to the floor. If you want blinds to the floor, we recommend that you prefer blinds to the entire wall - such blinds and the type of their fastening will look very nice.

    When your measurements are ready, you can go to the company that makes the manufacture of blinds, or order them through the online store, which will be cheaper and easier. The only thing you need to choose is the coloring of the blinds and whether the fastening materials come complete with blinds.

    Installation of blinds

    How to install the blinds on plastic windows? Now let's get down to the most interesting - editing. Horizontal and vertical blinds have a different way of fastening, so we'll talk about them separately.

    Horizontal Shutter Installation

    To install horizontal blinds you will need a screwdriver or a screwdriver and a pencil. The installation procedure is very simple. We put on the brackets on the upper part of the blind and make a measurement in which part to screw the screw and mark it with a pencil. It is very good if the brackets will be attached to one screw to make fewer holes in the window. So, when the fixing point is scheduled, we check the correctness of everything and remove the brackets. We take first one bracket, apply it in the target area and screw the screw. After that, we do the same with the second bracket. Then we put the blinds on the brackets and in the same way fix the latches on the sides from the bottom of the blinds. We check whether everything works, and proceed to install the blinds on the rest of the window.

    With regard to horizontal fabric blinds, the principle of their installation differs somewhat from the above. As a rule, this type of blinds is attached to the brackets, which are fixed to the window on the adhesive base, that is, simply put, they are glued to the profile. As well as horizontal fabric blinds are fixed below.

    You will learn more about the installation of horizontal and fabric blinds from the videos below.

    Installation of vertical blinds

    Installation of vertical blinds has 2 types of installation. The first type of installation - when the cornice of vertical blinds is attached to the ceiling or to the upper slope. The second type of installation - when the curtain rod is fixed to the brackets, which are fixed to the wall.

    For the first type of installation, there are special mounting holes in the middle of the eave, through which the screws fixing the structure to the ceiling or to the slope are screwed. To fix the ledge, you need to attach the cornice itself, then you need to figure out where to make holes for fastening. Using a puncher, make holes and screw dowels in them. Note that if you make holes in a slope with a puncher, be careful not to break off part of the wall. After you drive the dowels into the holes, apply the cornice and fix it with screws.

    With the second type of installation, you must first fix the brackets on the wall, after which they put on the cornice. Before you mark out the areas in which the brackets will be fixed, you must attach the cornice and make measurements. After this, we make holes in the planned areas, we plug dowels in them and then fix the brackets with the screw. At the end of the installation work we fix the cornices on the brackets.

    The next stage of installation of blinds is their assembly. Unlike horizontal and fabric blinds, vertical - it is necessary to collect, but it is not difficult. To do this, you need to collect all the runners together and rotate them with the notches to yourself. Then we take the lamellas and insert them into the sliders, when the lamella is firmly fixed, a click will be heard. Then weights are inserted into the lower part of the slats and fixed by a chain. After that check up working capacity of the mechanism and proceed to fastening decorative panels to the cornice.

    Video installation for blinds

    This video demonstrates the installation of horizontal blinds. In the method of installation used, the brackets are attached directly to the profile by self-tapping screws, and not to the glazing beads.

    In this video you can see the installation of fabric blinds, the brackets of which are also attached to the profile on the screws, and do not stick to it.

    The latest video will tell you how to install vertical blinds and collect them.
