Traditional grounds for differentiation of sex roles
Differences between men and women have, to put it mildly, a complex character. Sociologists examine them, analyzing the four components of gender identity: biological sex, gender identity, gender ideals and sexual roles.
The easiest way to define the biological sex. This concept includes primary and secondary physical signs characteristic of men and women: reproductive organs, facial hair, etc.
Tender identity is related to our idea of our field - do we really feel ourselves as a man or a woman. Awareness of one's sex does not always correspond to the biological sex of the individual. The famous tennis player Reni Richard, who later became a doctor, began her life as a man, but underwent a transsexual operation and felt like a woman.
Tender ideals embody cultural ideas about male and female behavior. Many cigarette advertisements depict an ideal man. Ideal women usually associated with cares about the house and children. But then in many advertisements women began to be portrayed in offices, business trips, etc. Thus, for the last 20 years there has been a change in gender ideals - ideas about the destination of men and women.
The fourth component of gender identity is the sexual roles associated with the division of labor, the rights and responsibilities of men and women. In the past, sexual roles were clearly defined: men worked to provide for their families;women engaged in domestic work - they farmed and raised children.

Currently, sexual roles and gender ideals are changing. In society, it is usually assumed that the four components of sexual self-awareness are in harmonic unity. It is expected that the biological individual of the female feels like a woman, and this sensation corresponds to the generally accepted definition of femininity. It is meant that she is ready to assume the roles and responsibilities traditionally associated with her gender. However, in reality this assumption is not always true. As already mentioned, the biological sex of people may not correspond to their gender identity. Having sufficient material means, a person can undergo an operation and change his sex. However, this happens very rarely. In addition, the way a person realizes his gender may not coincide with the generally accepted ideal. A man can feel comfortable as a biological male, but he may not be satisfied with patterns of behavior that correspond to cultural stereotypes. The late John Lennon was to some extent condemned when he did not fulfill his duties for work and remained at home with his newly born son. Finally, the rights and duties of the individual( sexual roles) may not correspond to the generally accepted gender ideals of society. For example, at present women work as police officers, firemen, serve in the army - all these sexual roles do not correspond to traditional ideals.
As each of these components is conditioned by various factors( biological, psychological and social), it is not surprising that they are not always combined with each other.
