The next after the forcing, the Japanese quince( chaenomeles) will bloom. This, of course, is not a real quince. A real quince is a tree with large fruits. Chaenomeles is a low shrub that blooms before the leaves blossom, usually in early May. Flowering lasts approximately 3 weeks. Large fire flowers, reminiscent of apple blossoms, collected in bundles of 2-4 pieces, thickly densely cover the bare three-year shoots. There are also garden forms with pale pink flowers.

You should not plant bulbs or early flowers under the quince, because the bush is very crooked due to the fact that very much there is a root offspring. Cut them do not advise, let the bush grow freely. Superfluous, of course, can be removed if they begin to creep too much. For this, we must dig up the soil to the mother's bush, then cut off the underground shoot. If you just cut off the shoot from above, then it will again go into growth.

There are two types of this shrub: there are undersized, about 1 m tall, called he chaenomeles of Maulea. The shrub has a drooping shape. And there is a tall shrub that reaches a height of 2.5 m, which is called Japanese Chaenomel. This plant is not suitable for growing in the North-West, because any quince freezes above the level of the snow cover, so it is better to plant a lower-browed Maulei chaenomel, which only the uppermost of the plants froze. It has to be cut, but the lower part of the bush is preserved, and most often bloom is in the center of the bush. To be seen its flowering, quince must be constantly thin out.

Quince has very beautiful foliage. It is green and glossy, all summer is shiny, towards autumn blushing. In winter it is necessary to cover it with something, tie lutrasil on it and after winter it is very early to untie, as it is not afraid of spring frosts. In short, quince requires annual attention.

You can plant chaenomeles along the tracks, at the corners where the tracks intersect. If you want to make a low green fence, then you can use the plant for this purpose, because it is prickly and strongly overgrown. Through it is very difficult to get to any enemy, like other people's little dog or cat, chicken or goose. Such low border-fencing is customary to do in the Baltic States, Finland, Norway.
