General: grows wildly in Southern Europe, the Caucasus and Asia Minor. Cultivated in these places in prehistoric times. Settled in many countries. In Russia it grows on small areas in the central regions. The cherry tree lives up to 100 years. Fruiting begins with 4-7 years.

In the sweet cherry, the flesh is watery and dense. The first type is called gini, the second is called bigarro. Gini is used fresh, bi-garro canned or frozen.

Gini - fruits with tender flesh, dessert, can not stand long-term storage and are not transportable.

Bigarro - fruits with a dense elastic flesh, well tolerate transport and short storage.

Dukes are cherry-cherry hybrids occupying an intermediate position between the parental forms.

Requirements: cherry is very thermophilic and demanding for moisture, but does not tolerate water stagnation. Cherries should not be planted in areas with a close groundwater table. Light-loving breed, in the shade the trees grow weakly, stretch and bear fruit poorly. Better fructifies in cross-pollination. To plant cherries, you must choose a place protected from cold northern winds. Cherry grows well on deep, permeable, light sandy loam soils, sufficiently calcareous, sufficiently fertilized and processed. On dry plots the sweet cherry grows poorly and gives small fruits. On the waterlogged it freezes and suffers from gum aeration. Particularly hard cherries tolerate late spring frosts during the formation of buds, flowers and fruits. Cherry is a strong and fast-growing culture, requires a large area of nutrition. Being drought-resistant, it requires optimal moistening after flowering, during the period of fruit filling. Excess moisture during the ripening of fruits leads to their cracking, and overmoistening in the second half of summer, as well as excessive doses of fertilizers, contributes to prolonged growth and a decrease in winter hardiness.
